Leave a really good waiter/waitress a HUGE tip

Why is it that some people forget to take their manners when they go to eat at a restaurant? I was in Paris over the weekend and went out to this charming little place for an evening meal. The atmosphere was cosy and the waitress was fast and helpful even though she was running the floor by herself. She took the next table’s order and then took the order for my & my boyfriend. When the food came out I was given lamb instead of salmon. Seeing as I speak very little French, I had ordered in English I assumed that the mistake had been because of a misunderstanding between what I had said and what she had heard. I was a little embarassed but she went and fetched my replacement meal very quickly, so all was good. The man at the next table over was not quite so nice to deal with. He ordered the salmon as well, and it came with mashed potatoes and sauce. Well, apparently he had ”...specifically asked for the potatoes to be brought out separately without the sauce…sigh…tut….it’s such a simple thing to do….sigh…” but this hadn’t happened. He was really grumpy about it and spent ages complaining to the lady he was with (bet she was having a fun time!!). It was a simple mistake, and the replacement potatoes were on the table in front of him around 60 seconds after he informed the waitress of the mistake. So why the big fuss about it? He didn’t stop going on for about 5-10 minutes. I felt bad for the waitress having to put up with that so I tipped extra and made sure to let her know that I had a lovely evening. I don’t know how waiting staff can be so patient sometimes!

Ugh, I hate it when people are rude to waiters/waitresses. I was dragged along to a meal with my bf’s family and we were served by this really sweet waitress who must’ve only been about 16 or so. For some unknown reason his dad kept taking the piss out of the poor girl (making rude and sarcastic comments right to her!), it was totally unjustified cause she was very helpful even though it was a busy Saturday night and there were lots of people to serve. I really felt sorry for her and would’ve tipped her so well but the bf’s parents were paying so I just made myself feel better by being extra polite to her and ordering three very expensive courses!

I went out to eat this weekend with a friend, and the waitress was so nice that I left her $20 (the bill was approx. $40)

Apparently a friend of mine did this…says he left her a $100 tip for a $6 burger. Not sure I belive him, but he IS pretty lax with his money…
