baby.
This may not be the end-all that I’m planning, but something, c’mon, just something.
How I did it: Strengthening my background in traditional and graphic illustration by doing. Developing a portfolio I was happy with by reading countless books and surfing internet forums.
Lessons & tips: Imagine. Read. Create.

I’m just digging into my webapp. I have my basic ideas put together and have started building sample pages in photoshop. Now I’ve got to track down someone with mad CSS skills. Then, I have to find someone with mad ruby on rails skills. This may become quite maddening. ;)
I’ve built a web app for (ahem) personal use that… well… allows me to track my sex life. It’s given me great insight into how often we have sex, how good our sex is, what the trends are, etc.
I’m considering rebuilding it and offering it to the web as a multi-tiered service (free + one or two other service levels).
Would you use it? Would you be interested in seeing it? I can’t decide if it’s creepy or not.
I’ve been a full time web developer working for other people for some time now, and I’ve been wanting to create some kind of an application on my own to make some reucurring income. I’ve had various ideas, but it always turns out that the competition for my ideas is too good, and I can’t think of ways to make what they did better.
At the same time, I’m studying Russian. I’ve noticed that all of the maay flash card programs out there have decent features, but there is no market killer out there that implements everyone’s features. I’m planning on having a working, sellable version ready to go in 5 months (lets say July 1).
My gaol is to work on it at least an hour a day, and 10 hours a week.
...and finish recoding the admin side of Ekwipment. The public side is all working fine and should cover a good 80% of what people should want, but the admin side is still too gutted to be useful at the moment.
EkwipmentEkwipment (v0.3) in actual use
(I’m trying to wrap up v0.5 now.)
This latest class project has been VERY discouraging. The group doesn’t integrate well at all. When I do this goal, I’ll have to start small and build something on my own, slowly.
I actually built a mini one in php for one of my classes, and I think it turned out pretty well. It’s a really useless contact manager, but I learned a lot doing it and I hope I can translate this knowledge into something actually useful to someone soon.
It’s mostly used for time entry, and it exports to Intuit, ADP, etc.
