    Worth doing!

I still have hummingbirds! I didn’t even know they stuck around through the winter.

    Worth doing!

Bought a hanger to hang the feeder this weekend. I made the nectar and filled the feeder. Now for the birdies…...

    Worth doing!

I’ve had hummingbird feeders in the past, and they definitely do attract these gorgeous birds. But, I also find that keeping them filled with fresh nectar is a big pain in the butt. So, I’ve stopped putting out hummingbird feeders, and instead I just planted flowers that attract them. I don’t have as many birds as I used to get with the feeder, but there is at least one hummingbird pair that have made my garden their “territory,” and if I’m outdoors during the daytime for more than three minutes, I’m just about guaranteed to see one of them. They’re SO cute, and beautiful in the right light (we have Anna’s hummingbirds here). And they seem to feel comfortable here, since they’ll often come very close to us while we’re gardening or sitting in the hot tub. Once in a while one will even come up and hover a foot or two in front of me or my son. They’re very cool. And just letting the plants grow is SO much easier than keeping those stupid feeders filled!

Here, they like to feed off of my lavender plants, desert sage, sometimes even the roses, I think. But mostly the lavender and sage.
