MoaTeresia health is everything.
I live in Hong kong at the moment and I do learn a little bit of Cantonese just from being here, like basic phrases and things.. Before I go back, I wanna take a course just to get a bit more “in” on the language.

no progress in this one so far. I have my boyfriend’s friend here too visiting. i have 2 guys speaking Cantonese yet neither of them is doing a good job teaching! They’re starting with bad words or jokes. This is going to be moved to the bottom of the list.
Will be move upward once I found a job! one thing at a time right?

I am half Chinese, Cantonese to be exact. I was able to understand the simple dialogues in this language a long long time ago, when I was 5 years old. Unfortunately, my grampa, my only teacher, passed when I was about 6. Since then, I’ve lost the tongue and ears for Cantonese.
Before my significant other, who is Cantonese, came into my life,I have bought CDs, a book, and have made multiple attempts to learn in the car, but it didn’t work out. After meeting his parents, who only speak Cantonese, absolutely NO English! I have discovered a new reason to pursue learning the language once more; this time with his help.
My approach to this newly re-discovered flavor is to ask him many questions and repeat the things he teach me! Wish me luck!
taking kungfu and i feel silly not speaking in it’s mother tongue. but don’t know what program to get or how to go about it…i’m a visual learner primarily…but most programs say audible leraning is the best…at a loss.
i’ve always loved everything chinese for some reason.. then, almost a year ago, i met a chinese exchange student from germany.. :p. just about the most perfect a girl can get.. g/f of almost 10 months now.. (although.. exchange students have to go back sometime.. :(.. been apart longer than together..) she speaks english fine, but i want to learn german and cantonese for her.. i love those languages anyway.. i actually tried learning chinese once on a free podcast thing, but it was mandarin.. close enough probably.. but still.. :)
Became expose to cantonese in Toronto, picked it up in 2 years. Speaking is a bit broken, but listening is good. And I found that constant up-keeping is necessary! So hang out with your Cantonese friends as often as possible!
Well if I spoke Cantonese… There wouldn’t be this mega language barrier between my Grandma and me.
Also, it’d be great for my third language on my resume… Flighties need their languages etc. etc.
