It's disaster preparedness month 4 weeks ago

I believe. We had a speaker about this at our last Soroptomist meeting and I realized (again) that this is something I need to make a priority.

We aren’t going to be blown away by a tornado or hurricane but we have had some severe earthquakes just a town away and flooding in the area.

Good thing a disaster hasn't struck... 1 year ago

because I havent some much as compiled one item for my kit. Honestly I havent even gone to the website yet. I have a bunch of camping gear so I would be okay for some things, but I go to the grocery store every day because I don’t ever think about buying for multiple days let alone extra for an emergency. FOR SHAME!

Its sometimes easier to buy from the red cross 2 years ago

I had built up a disaster kit, kept it in a locked bin in our back yard, away from the house. A year or two later we opened it back up and found such a foul stench. The water that we had stored in the bottom that were in plastic containers – well the containers broke down, everything was soaked, covered in mold. I suddenly knew what the Katrina victims must have felt like returning to their homes. So instead we just shelled out the money for the Red Cross kits and packs of water, now stored in a section of our garage away from the house.

Just a basic hurricane & medkit 2 years ago

I have 2 kits complete. One for my role on the community emergency response team and the other for the household. Basic camping stuff & medkit. I will be supplementing it along the way… well worth having for piece of mind.

Mine kit is too old 3 years ago

I have an old kit with very sparse thing in it, but I heard there is a website www.ready.gov, that lists things to put in a kit.
