go to a football match

There is a match on the 18th of October at our local stadium (Gammlia) where the top Swedish women’s team play; Umeå IK. Since the outcome of the match doesn’t matter, due to points and such, the match is free to watch, so we hope to get to see this one. Yay!

I went to all the high school football games!!!

The football fans here are, how shall we say, mostly mad. I’d like to go and see Bristol City play, but it’s always way way crowded. I think instead I’ll wait until I move to Sweden and go and see Umeå IK play. They’re a women’s team, and they’re one of the best in the world! :) Should be interesting.

On July 12 I went to Commonwealth Stadium to watch a FIFA U-20 match. It was Portugal vs. Chile; my friend and I were cheering for Chile because we don’t like Christiano Reynaldo very much, and our dislike for him carries over to teams he’s not even on. We sat on the shady side of the stadium, where we were able to get a good view of the game as well as the crowds of face-painted fans who were going nuts the entire game. The match was good, Chile getting off to the lead and managing to maintain it, and I was surprised how much I got into the action (although I did miss the commentators, as I’m still not as knowledgeable about football as I’d like to be). The match was great, and notable for the INSANE amount of red and yellow cards that flew in the last five minutes. Poor sportsmanship, but good sporting event. I’m going to have to go again when I get the chance!

Canada’s Hosting the U-20 World Cup this year, and my good friend just got me a ticket so I can tag along to the Round of 16 game on Thursday. I was glad I could make it to one of the games, because the only other two Edmonton matches are on my Stag Party and my Rehearsal Dinner: this was my last shot. Chile v. Portugal; should be a decent match!

It was cold, but standing next to the managers dug out and hearing them swear at their players was quite enjoyable.
