Measure, mix, heat, agitate, heat, cool, eat.

I suppose all food can be boiled down to such essentials, but it was so stark in this case. By the time it’s mixed it’s practically ready to eat!

The video at http://www.forkyou.tv/2007/02/27/quick-fork-5-to-granolas-house-we-go/ got me where I needed to go. Now only exhausting my ingredient supplies is the sole thing holding me back from making it continually.

seriously good stuff!! (and recipe) 2 years ago

    Granola:

    Ingredients:
    4 c. oats
    1 c. wheat germ
1/2 c. sesame seeds (raw, unsalted works best)
1/4 c. brown sugar (can be increased by a tablespoon with good results)
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/3 c. vegetable oil
    1/3 c. honey
    1/3 c. water

    Directions:
    1. Heat oven to 300oF. Stir together oats, wheat germ sesame seeds, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
    2. Make a well in center of oat mixture, add vanilla, honey, oil, and water. Toss to combine and spread evenly on an ungreased cookie sheet (high sides help).
    3. Bake for 40 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring every 10 minutes. Let cool completely. Makes 7 cups.

For crispier texture and larger clusters:
Bake for 45 minutes, stirring gently every 15 minutes, taking care to sweep edges away from the sides of the pan so not to burn.

    i really recommend doing this.
it’s so easy, and it’s so good.
i eat it on yogurt, on ice cream, in trail mixes, or just by the handful!

i love granola! 2 years ago

i love the stuff, but it’s so expensive and most processed, store-bought stuff is full of stuff i don’t need, so i figured, “why not make my own?”
that way i can also add things i do like and drop things i don’t, and hopefully, i can get my boyfriend to like it, too.
i just need to find a good starter recipe to build off of.

also, we’re going to be going on vacation down the oregon coast in august, so bringing homemade trail-mix might be a good idea, too.
    =D
