be a better writer

I love writing… and would love to become a professional writer when I am better at it… I’ve written a few stories.. but none of them seem as good on paper as they do in my head… hopefully I’ll get there one day..

Some subjects I can write about 4 ever,
but others I can’t get a simple word out.
that truly makes me mad because I want to write like a pro!
Well I’m going to start writing everyday and I hope i get better at it.

wake early, freewrite every day
meditate several times a day.
weekends for serious flow.

by sept 26 08 I want to be a more visceral writer.

by the end of this year I want to fully astonish myself.

I want to write so that the words stand out on the page and jump around the room. I what I’ve written to flow and I believe jumping off the page meants that they jump into someone’s head are remembered.

This is another of my goals, like being a good mother, that I’ll be working on for the rest of my life. I can’t imagine life without writing, and it’s very important to me to keep trying to be better.

I became a much better writer quite a while ago, but I forgot to go on this website to update my goals. Anyway, it was totally worth it, and I did much better in my English classes!

if i was a better writer i could get my point across and people would understand things from my perspective.

I teach writing at the college level and want to know grammar better so that I can teach it better. My grammar is fine, but I have a pretty instinctual sense of why/how something works or doesn’t… plus I want my writing to be a good model of grammar to them so that I’m always practicing what I preach!

I’d like to find some program or something that will lead me through exercises… I’m a grad student so “studying” doesn’t sound very fun. We’ll see; I’ll come up with something.

All that comes to mind when I write is the same sentence.

There is something written here that I cannot read.

I don’t have a problem writing - the words come to me - I just know that I could be a better writer. I write a lot these days - work, mostly, but some blogging - and am reading a lot, which I know helps. But still, it’s the quality that’s the issue. When I get it, I get it, and I can knock out some pretty good written pieces (like this and this) that seem to have the impact I seek. But other times, it’s just second rate.

Also, I suck at editing my own stuff. Words spelled incorrectly, wrong words used, all that crap—I just don’t see it when I edit; I see what I intended, actual letters on the screen be damned.
