I’ve wanted to do this since I heard that music therapy existed. The more I learn about it, the more I want to do this. It’s something exciting, it’s a chance to help people, it’s a fascinating job, and it’s something that suits me.

At the moment, however, I’m a little concerned. I auditioned for the program at my University last February, and I didn’t get in. Now February is coming around again, and although I’ve been working hard I’m not sure that I’m ready for this. It’s hard to face the audition again after messing it up before—I’m terrified.

But I’m stubborn, too. If they don’t let me in this year, then I’ll try again next year. I’m not going to give up on this.

looking for the right career 15 months ago

I want a career that will be as rewarding for me physically, mentally, and emotionally as it will for the people I help. I want to be creative, and help build and strengthen communities with music. I hope that I find this is the right choice for me. I have a BA in music and math, I will need to be accepted into a school and transfer my music credits. Hopefully it won’t take me too long (I’m thinking about 6 quarters as a part-time student) to get certified. I would also like to get a masters or PhD further down the road and contribute to research in the field.

3_easy_steps notbeen here since last March, haven't acheived my three things yet

The big one 18 months ago

The goal, the amibition, the thing I want to devote my life to. It’s going to be tough considering I want to go to America not only to study but probably to live. I know I need a lot of money to fund my studies, I know it might be tricky going back to school after a few years out, I know I’ll be a lot older and from a completely different cultural background to my peers but I think my age and experience will be benificial in giving me the maturity necessary to focus and acheive the very best degree I can. I know it’s 100% possible because I believe i can so it, I just need to stop procrastinating (and biting my nails!) and get the job done!

I am new to this. What should I write? I know I am interested in becoming a music therapist. I might write more later.

Well, I’m going to UW – Eau Claire in the fall for music therapy, so it’s a huge leap in the right direction! :)

Interested in knowing more about this profession 2 years ago

I’m interested in knowing more about this profession. I have a Master’s in Social Work and played piano (classical) from ages 8 to 18. Although I haven’t touched a piano in 8 years, I could easily get back into it, and music has always been a special part of my life. I’d really appreciate being able to make contact with someone who is knowledgeable about this and who also knows about how the equivalency programs work for other mental health professionals interested in becoming music therapists.

Drexel University 3 years ago

I’ll be attending Drexel in the fall to get my Masters of Music Therapy. This was my top choice school, and they told me right on the spot that I got in! I’m really going to be exactly what I want to be when I grow up. I know that I’m lucky.
