Didn’t really like it, but it changed the way I saw the world, and how most people lived.

    Education 21 months ago

My wife and I have writen an internet based program for teaching 3-6 year old children how to read and write english.
We are happy to share this with development in the third world.. or even 2nd world! If you are interested, going there to teach, or find yourself there with no resources except an internet connection, go to www.nurseryeducationonline.com and download the charity curriculum. Good luck!

    I live on a “3rd world” country ¬¬

I lived in a 3rd world country, Lesotho, for 2 years, and I think it provided me with an invaluable education into the realities of life people not living in the 1st world face every day. They say that 2/3 of humanity lives in what we call the “3rd World,” though I doubt many people really understand what that means . . .

I’m not really sure which of the countries I’ve been to are officially ‘3rd world’.

I think Singapore is technically a ‘devloping country’ but I’m not sure about a ‘3rd world country’, and in any case it would seem like cheating given the standard of living in Singapore. On the other hand, there are parts of Australia where remote indigenous communities live in third world conditions, and this could be the case for many countries (including of those that I have been to Brazil, Argentina, Chile US etc.). I have however, been to:
    Indonesia
    Malaysia
    Thailand
    Bolivia
    Peru
Paraguay (for 20 minutes)...that I think definitely count.

Palestine. It is officially not a country.

But the West Bank has been under occupation since 1967 and many Palestinians have been refugees since they were forced to leave their homes in 1948.

Life is particularly hard for Christian & Muslims due to the occupation, the separation wall, confiscation of lands, late night raids, diversion of water resources, inaccessibility to schools/healthcare/family, etc.

So it qualifies from my view.

    El Salvador 3 years ago

After spending 5 weeks in El Salvador, I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to come back to the states. It was by-far one of the most powerful experiences of my life, and I will never forget it.

It was very eye-opening. I knew how wasteful we in first-world countries are, but it was amazing to have it demonstrated to me so clearly.
