I’m finally getting to work full time on my new job. Very exciting.
Friday I forced myself to sit and figure out some weird stuff that I had been avoiding (binders of spreadsheets). Now I feel like I can take on the new responsibilities without fear.

This may be kind of obsolete soon…I’m notorious for being efficient when I’m stressed out and have too much to do, which will probably be the case with my new job… But no time but the present to continue to form good habits, so I don’t get over stressed out…
it’s very exciting, though!

I'm realizing
that I just need to improve my focus all around. This can only have positive effects for school work, house work, etc.

Also read a blog post that talks about work expanding to fill the time available, which is totally my life! I try to explain this to people and they never seem to understand me, but if I’m not really busy, almost to the point of being stressed out, I just get so BORED. There’s no incentive to doing the work any faster because I won’t have any work to follow it.

I have an interview that will hopefully change my job duties shortly anyway, but at least I found something to back me up. Nevertheless, Monday was good. I set some goals for myself (work on this one more hour, then this other thing until lunch) as well as delaying gratification (save this thing you want to look up until lunch). Before I knew it, it was 3:30.
Just have to keep practicing…

Had a good day today…finished up some reports that I had been dragging on. Only have two left from my last stack, and then I’ll get a fresh start (or something different, at least) which always seems to help me out.

but I just have a hard time DOING it.
My cubicle doesn’t really help. It’s chronically cold, so I’m always in a sweater, which makes me feel frumpy… My work is largely concentrated in one area, which is a good area, but I just get tired at the end of the day. I try to switch from file to file but I still have trouble by about 1 pm, just staring into space, aimlessly checking the newspaper internet home page. I don’t have that many tasks to switch between, so I’m not sure how to create a sense of variety so I can get through the day in a more positive way.
I’m just going to have to experiment with obligatory walks (those are always a pain in the ass, because I have to go through security every single time), limiting how much I check my email, making a list at the beginning of the day, and perhaps going back to drinking more pop at work. I try to drink water, but it doesn’t have the same “reward” feeling as diet coke… I don’t want to, but I need to do something to get me more focused at work. I’m a good employee, but I could be astounding in my productivity if I could get my brain settled.
