I spent the afternoon driving through the corn fields and revisiting the Nebraska of my youth, ending up in Murdock, NE (population 269) a small farming community along the old Rock Island Railroad.

Very little has changed from when I was there before, and after speaking to the lady at the post office, a gentleman from the bank came over to open up the town museum. In the museum, I found out that Movie Director Alexander Payne’s grandmother (The Descendants) grew up here and his movies like ‘Citizen Ruth’ and ‘Election’ were filmed just outside the city.

After visiting the museum, I headed next to the Wildlife Safari Park near the Platte river North of Murdock. There I spent the rest of the afternoon on a really well laid out drive though multiple habitats and it was a really great experience. The Safari has only been open since 1998, so this was my first visit there.

It was a great day that I remember well even through its taken 7 months to post it here! 1 week ago

of cramming so much life into so little time…I’m not sure most people could relate to it. DanT1999 mentioned that he had never rode a bike as a child. Before I got my first car, I probably rode 1000’s of miles on my bike. Most of my third day was spent retracing some of the places I rode on my bike in my youth. Quite a bit has changed like the loss of the Rock Island Railroad because I used to live close to that right of way, and so many new housing developments and shopping centers, but there are places that haven’t changed either. And everywhere I went, strangers that I came across and began talking to stopped what they were doing to reminisce about the “old” days. Those days were not so old to me…I won’t do a place by place account, but I know you will be tantalized when you see the picture. 3 months ago

I have been bad bad bad at not writing this sooner. I spent part of the morning at Village Inn having breakfast with a free piece of pie as part of a promotion, then I drove around a bit looking for a charger for my Camera (since I left the cable for my camera at home) and didn’t have any luck finding one. A whirlwind of memories to be sure. Saw flooding at a park we used to camp at, and everyone is worried the water will go higher. Taking lots of pictures of the old neighborhood and inside the school as well. Feeling really tired at the end of the day. Met up with an old friend for lunch and visits to a couple of railroad museums (but no running trains). Boy am I tired and the official reunion activities only start tomorrow night! Goodnight all!
P.S. No pictures because I couldn’t find the charger for my camera and no store around here carries it. Cam battery is almost dead. :-( 8 months ago

I already have reservations and tickets for my 30 year high school reunion. I went to my 20th 10 years ago and it was a lot of fun even through I was not the most popular guy in school. Everyone was supportive and friendly no matter who they were and I had a great time. I am hoping this time is just as good and there are a few more friends I will see this year that didn’t make it last time.
I will be flying out for it tonight! 8 months ago
