I didn’t start that blog April 1 like I said. Infact I’d forgotten about that blog-promise. Anyway I did start a blog last night, http://tonguetracks.blogspot.com
So, I’ll share the link here and keep the site updated (Note: I did NOT say “up to date”)
The languages that I want to learn are:
Amslan/ASL
Esperanto
French
Spanish
Mandarin
Arabic
Japanese
I’m familiar with Arabic and have some rudimentary knowledge of Esperanto and some random vocab in ASL. I will utilize all sorts of resources to help me accomplish this goal.
I plan to use free resources to learn Basic ASL, I’m teaching myself Esperanto this summer. I started in March but I’d like to intensify my efforts this summer.
I’ll use sites like LiveMocha and the public library to help me obtain media of the national langauges. I’ll do all 4 free courses of French, Spanish, Mandarin and Japanese as I need them.
I’ll take a year of French and a year of Spanish in Jr. College. When I go to University I’ll take a year of Mandarin, Arabic, and Japanese.
I’ll be getting a region free-DVD player as soon as I can, I barely watch TV as it is nowadays and when I get my own space I wont bother with TV. Everytime I start learning a language I’ll use every chance to I can to speak it, even if it means hanging out in the Foreign Lang louge during all my spare time, even as I do my homework.
I’ll use my knowledge of Esperanto to help me travel as often as possible to foreign countries where I can be immersed in a language, and stock up on media of that language while there.
I’ll be keeping a more informative blog on the matter starting April 1, so keep an eye for that.
Right now I know English and Im learning Spanish at school and I have a few people I talk to that are like my private teachers :D I think I wanna be able to learn these languages in this order though :D
Spanish (I can read/write it, but I would like to speak/listen more :D )Otherwise I can understand it somewhat
French (At the moment Im teaching myself this language, but Im going to take it next year in school and hopefully they’ll move me up a level)
German (Im teaching this to myself too. So far I’ve been listening to a lot of german bands such as rammstein and megaherz and eisbrecher so I can get a feel of how they pronounce things. Then from there Im learning some words and some verbs)
Russian (I have quite a few russian friends and I want to be able to talk to them :D So far I only know a few words :D)
Italian ( This is close to spanish so I think it would be a nice language to learn :D)
Swedish (I also like this language and I like their music such as Zavod :D I also want to travel here and maybe live here for awhile :D )
Polish ( Im polish so I think I should know this language for my heritages sake :D I dont know anyone who speaks it though :D )
Anyone have any tips on teaching yourself a language more effectively?
In this order—
1) Persian (fluent—ok in speaking, would like to improve my reading/writing).
2) English (excellent reading/writing, would like to improve the hint of accent that I have, perfect my speaking skills- more ties in with speaking eloquently).
3) French (ok reading skills. Poor speaking and reading skills, and I’ve been learning French for the past 10 years in school!!)
4) Spanish (Spanish is a sexay! language, and easy to learn I’ve heard if you know how to speak French)
5) Italian (Ditto. Just to be able to enjoy lovely Italian cinema.)
6) Arabic (I know so many North Americans who want to learn Arabic. Yet learning the alphabet it a huge barrier for them. I can read Arabic alphabet… and when I learn French I’ll understand the whole male/female object things, and it’ll be even easier. So yeah, this is a language I should obviously learn!)
7) The ‘maybe’s
a) Hebrew (I think it’s be cool if you knew how to speak Hebrew. I can pronounce a lot of the vowels… and if I learn arabic and vise versa it’ll be easier to learn Hebrew because both languages have the same roots.)
b) Chinese (This one is probably the hardest, at the same time there is SO MUCH resources available to learn Chinese. Even basic Chinese would be cool. My chinese friend already taught me how to write like 10 words in a day, with that pace, you could learn like 3600 characters in a year! A lot! It wouldn’t really be that practical for me though. )
c) German (Okay, I kind of hate how German sounds, (and I only know German words from WWII movies—haha) at the same I find the structure of the language kind of cool. So not really enthusiastic about this one, but would be cool to learn nonetheless.)
d) Portugues (So I can speak to the hotties in Brazil. hehe. Kidding. It’s one of the romance langauges, if you have the other 3 down, the fourth should be a joke.)
e) Swedish or one of other Scandinavian languages (I’ve noticed that they share a lot of common root words with English, it’s kind of weird, sort of like old/middle English if you’ve read it, not quite close to German, but a weird old English—and cool to learn, ‘coz who knows swedish otheres than the swedes… like who knows Herbew other than jews?)
If you know what language are easy or no so hard please send my a email to howzitdareggae@hotmail.com or if you know what web can help me with this free or if you speak other language please help me.
Si alguien por alli sabe cuales son los idiomas mas comerciales porfavor digamenlo o mandenme un email a mi correo howzitdareggae@hotmail.com o si hablas otro idioma como italiano o portugues
I am a sopohomore in college, and I have already flirted with: French, Spanish, German, Ancient Greek, Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese-of these, I know latin spanish chinese best-
