public speaking 20 months ago

every time I try to get up and speak in front of people, I get soo nervous.I need to get over this fear.

public speak. 2 years ago

I gave a presentation that was short and I wasn’t nervous. I think I even made them giggle. It can only go uphill from here!

I am a total idiot... 2 years ago

I made a total ass of myself the other day. Some big-wigs came down to our office, and we held an impromptu meeting. We had to go around a table of about 15 people, and give our names, our titles, and how long we’ve worked there. I barely could squeak out my name and title, much less my years with the agency. I find my public speaking has become more and more debilitating, and may soon interfere with my career goals.My boss knows how I freak about public speaking, and rarely calls on me to do any projects that would involve “speaking”. And, the thought of even joining Toastmasters give me hives.

Definitely worth it! 2 years ago

I used to be scared, but now I’m relaxed and enjoy it…especially getting paid for it! Tip: Think about the audience more than yourself. If you’re focused on them and their needs, you’ll be less likely to worry about what people are thinking about YOU! Start with Toastmasters…a great place to get your feet wet.

somewhat successful presentation, about 2 minutes of talking (or less). Small step with big reward.

Focus 3 years ago

You’ll get over it with time. Your voice will become less and less shaky and you’ll learn to ignore the pressure. That whole picture-them-in-their-underwear stuff never worked for me (mostly because it was too distracting) but I doubt it would have helped me much anyway. You honestly just have to focus on what you’re doing and get the job done – you can’t let the audience get to you. Besides, unless you’re trying to pitch an idea or something, no one makes a big deal out of it. Don’t stress.

The first time I ever spoke in front of a crowd (there were about 10 others in the room) my voice wouldn’t stop shaking and I kept on fidgeting. I would have done anything to just leave the room, but when I was done, I realized that it wasn’t so bad. I’ve done it so many times since and it only gets easier.
