How I did it: I gathered my closest friends and made a Facebook event just for us to communicate about the holiday. I browsed around on a lot of comparison websites for the best deal.
I went with Expedia in the end and we managed to go from heathrow to Amsterdam, back again plus hotel for just £200 each.

Went to Amsterdam over the weekend. Only downer was that it was very wet and very cold. The weather had been so mild the week before and I was looking forward to seeing all the spring flowers. I did however go to some of the museums such as Anne Franks house and I took a daytrip out of Amsterdam to an museum village which had real working windmills and workers actually still wearing clogs. I am sure I will return sometime soon to take the canal cruise and walks in the park. The Van Gough museum was under renovation so thats also on the next itinery. Museums a bit pricey but everything else I found quite affordable compared to London. 2 months ago

I shall send off for my passport the end of this month, pay for Amsterdam the end of Febuary, then buy the train tickets etc the end of march.

I currently live in Holland so this isn’t a hard goal for me. Visiting Amsterdam is really worth it, I go there about once a month and every time I am impressed. Good museums, fun and spontaneous tourists, it’s all good. 4 months ago

When I travel, I research the place I want to go. Used to we just had books at the library or purchasing them at a bookstore. Now there is the internet and google. It is easy to click “inexpensive hotels in Amsterdam.” At the same time, I narrow down the time of year I want to go. Amsterdam in May was awesome. I don’t think it would be as much fun in the winter, but the rates would be cheaper then. Then I use a credit card to buy my ticket. Nowadays, I can pay my card off before I go. Back then, I saved up my money before I went and took traveller’s checks. If you are younger, you canstay at a hostel and that is a great way to meet other folks. Or you could try that website Couchsurfing or something like that. 4 months ago
