How I did it: I saw this goal in BringMeThunder's list and figured I should mark it as done.
There is a wild mustang herd up on Pink Mountain near Alaska. Every few years the owner of the lands rounds up 50-100 mares and foals to sell at auction (unfortunately they also are forced to shoot a few of the stallions I am told to help population control) :(
One year I was at one of these auctions and I bought a 10 month old stud colt for my daughter. I bought him for 40$ as the meat buyers didn't even want him he was so emaciated. But with any horse- e took our time, loved him lots and he is now a beautiful (mostly lol ) well trained horse that is a wonderful addition to our family:)

These magnificent creatures are being confined to smaller and smaller pieces of land, which means more and more must be rounded up and auctioned off by the Bureau of Land Management. If nobody wants them, they will eventually have to be euthanized. I would be honored to have some of them, to tame not their wild bodies but their gentle hearts.
I want to adopt a mustang from the BLM and do the training myself. I recently visited the Corral in Hines, Oregon and the horses are just beautiful.
