My bank just got a new thing called track my spending. And it shows money in VS money out. Mine seems to always point to money out. so i think i need to start saving, so it can point to money in :)

How I did it: So im still in secondary school so this is probably different to everyone elses but here goes...My parents set up a bank account for me when i was born. That means that all the money i was given when i was little went into this account. Then i started to get pocket money- it use to be £3 from my dad and £2 from my grandma each week- £5 per week. Now its £3 from each of them each week so i get £6 a week! I put it into a money box and every… Read how I did it…

I’ve finally graduated and landed my first job – and the pay is not too bad so now after 3 years of being a scruffy, starved student I will actually have some money to save :) I’m getting really excited about it and have set up a budget – after putting money aside for rent and bills, I’ll put 50% towards general expenses, like food, travel, going out, 25 % for extra expenses like clothes, books, spare cash for nights out, and 25 % to go into the bank. And then I’ll be able to save up for some things I’ve been depriving myself of for the past three years, like a new guitar, a yoga mat, new speakers for my stereo; just generally little luxuries I haven’t been able to afford.
Now I do realise such a budget is only possible if 75% of your income will cover bills and food, travel and the odd coffee during the week, but before you get jealous – I’m frugal rather than excessively rich, and I have worked like mad for the past 3 years to finally get a job after uni. Hence the excitement about now being able to afford some hobbies :)

It seems most of the money goes on little things so I’m working out a budget where I get out a set amount on Monday and another set amount for the weekend and will not go back to the ATM to get any more.

I might be able to buy my plane ticket next week. Then if everything goes according to my plans and calculations, I should be able to save the equivalent of 1000 to 1200 euros in the next two months.
But, I have to be careful, obviously. It’s easier to spend money when the number in your bank account is getting higher and higher.

I’m still in school, without a job (haha,) so i guess I’m different from most of the entries, but I’ve started early just to be safe (I’m quite aware of how much my mother saves…unfortunately.) I’m not sure what I’m saving for, but I’ll just call it the future

To make sure I make it to the end, and have all the money I want for my trip to Finland, I gave myself a goal that I won’t add to my list because it can fit under this goal.
I won’t spend more than $100 every week, without counting the bills (phone, insurance, car loan). Starting from now.
I wanted to buy new wheels for my car so badly! But it’s gonna wait for next year. And when I decide to not buy something for my car, you know I’m determined.

It is funny how I started on this savings program, but sometimes I believe God put things in front of you, and you run with it; Anyway, there was a book I ran across called “Christmas Jars” by Jeffrey F.Wright; I finished his other book, The Wednesday Letters” was pretty impressed and got this book. Although the book is small, no more than 150-200 pages at best, it taught me plenty; Basically, you get a jar, save throughout the year, then give the jar to another. I started THREE; one to give, the other two to keep. one is for the kindle I want. I pray it works. I feel like I’m disciplining myself to things.

Today I got the number, how much I’ll be getting.

My trip to Finland is paid.
And I don’t need to tell you that I had a huge smile for my face for all the evening!

I need to save money for my big summer project, for my appartment furniture, and also for my trip to Finland next Fall. My trip to New York City wasn’t planned and it has affected my budget a lot! Hotel rooms, gas, activities… and even the cellphone (I received my bill today, ugh!!!).
Now I must be cautious and stop spoiling myself. Spend only the minimum.
