Starsmore is apparently a risk-taking, self-improving extrovert?
...and it’s gonna be beautiful! :) I just need to lay down the outer seams, and weave the laces (is that the right word in english?), and then I’m good to go. Just in time for the medieval fair-season here in denmark, too- I’m going with my reenactment group, and I’m looking forward to it like you wouldn’t believe :)
But darn it, I’m never gonna like sewing everything by hand… It takes forever!!! And now I’m stuck in a moral crisis… I’m vegetarian, so what do I do about belt, shoes, etc.? I can’t use pleather (it wouldn’t get accepted because it’s not authentic…). I guess I could weave a belt without being historically incorrect, and sew a bag, but the shoes are really giving me trouble. I can go without in the summer season, but we have two winter-fairs coming up as well…
There’s nothing quite like the joy of creating something beautiful from scratch and then getting to show it off!
I’ve always been an avid historical costumer, but now my attention (and current obsession) has been turned to medieval styled garb.. especially now that I’m a part of the SCA.
I’ve selected a time frame – 1100-1300 – which really, gives me a wide selection of styles to choose from. I think I’ve got one now, though, based on an illustration on a Welsh tax roll from 1290. This should turn out well.. I’ve got a little over a month and a half to make it.
Wish me luck!
