I finally went despite the fact that i thought i would fall in or just look silly. I was forced and I had a great time. It was challenging too especially coming back agaist the flow. I wound up taking my first trip at a river KNOWN for its alligator population. Its a good thing I didnt know this up front or i wouldnt have gone. I have finally been up close and personal with some gators! It was a 2 hour trip and I hope to go again soon (Not in that river!)

I want to refresh my kayaking skills. I haven’t been on the water in 3 yrs. My goal is to kayak twice per week this summer.

In 2005 I wanted to take scouts kayaking.
I then joined another scout group for four weeks to learn to paddle on flat water.
Upon returning to uni I joined the canoe club and spent twelve months leaning how to paddle on moving water.
During this time I represented the university in canoe polo, wild water racing and slalom. In the slalom competition I competed against olympic hopefuls – they beat me by a whisker!
12 months later I was on a three week trip round the Alps on some on some of the best rivers Europe has to offer. We visited France, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
A year after that I returned to the alps for two weeks, this time for a tour of Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland.
I then moved to the Lake district and every so often I have kayaking parties – Christmas and my birthday were a blast!
I spent a further week in Switzerland kayaking in the glorious alps. Flying kayaks on Ryanair is a great laugh – get lots of bubblewrap!
In the summer of 2007 I was asked to organise the kayaking, canoing and raft building for a scout Jamboree in 2008 (www.jamboree.me.uk). We had 220 scouts join us for a week. As part of this I trained a team of ten coaches in canoing and kayaking. They all got a British Canoe Union Level 1 coach award.
Today I bought an open canoe and am very excited!
In a few weeks I’ve got my level 3 coach assessment; if I pass I’ll be qualified to coach on moving water.

Well, I wasn’t planning to do this here, but I did! Great! I did ocean kayaking this time, which is way more difficult than lake kayaking. Great work out. Don’t forget sunblock. I had a great time and enjoyed the ocean. I felt at peace. Definitely do doubles to start off because single would have been way too difficult for me here on the ocean. This was $10/2 hours at Manuel Antonio Beach- ask for Cherokee.

Need A Kayak
I remember doing this at Year 6 camp, I’ve never forgotten how fun it was. I need to get a kayak and start hitting up a local lake or something.

My husband and I made a decision that next month (or so) we will be buying a two-man kayak so that we can go out on the extremely flat days and search for dolphins or snorkel in deeper parts :D I have no doubt that we will make great use of our kayak and have a blast together; I can’t wait!
