do stop-motion animation

I tried doing this with a digital camera and some toy dinosaurs, but it failed miserably. It was a good lesson in how you cannot fail if you don’t at least try, and I determined that stop motion was harder than drawing a flip book using a camera.

So, I sat down today and learned a tiny tiny bit, downloaded some stop-capture software, and made my first stop-motion video, using a pair of sunglasses. It was really cool, and I didn’t plan it out or anything, just kind of went with the flow.

I took a class in stop motion with Voltaire at SVA in New York. It was a totally different way of looking at movement. Planning is so important to getting good smooth actions in stop motion, and I felt it really helped my 3D animation as well.
