tutoring has improved. i sort of put my student in his place and now he seems to respect me more. i guess i just had to prove myself in the beginning. we are getting along really well now. i’m able to be strict but still joke with him. it’s fun and i think progress has been made already in the few meetings that we’ve had. i just have to make sure we stay on the right path.

my friend, the TOEFL teacher, got me a tutoring job nearby.
my student and i are in a trial phase this week. he is ten years older than me, and stubborn. i feel like he can’t get past my age and therefore, questions my ability and methods.
i’ve tutored before but the oldest has been under 30, with a genuine interest in learning english and a new culture.
still, i hope we are able to work something out because it means atleast $400 more a month for the next few months.

i will receive my certificate in the mail. i don’t know if i will be using it any time soon because, with the commute and few hours, the pay will turn out to half that of my current job as a store cashier.
this month will be insane as far as school and work go so if i make the job move, it won’t be until august.

i’m pursuing a creative career and i need a source of income until i can support myself with my art.
i’ve already made the firm decision that i don’t want to go back to waitressing. i wouldn’t mind a retail job because anything is better than waitressing, but i can’t seem to find one.
i regularly help my friend, a TOEFL teacher, correct student papers so she suggested that i try teaching english. she says that she believes i will be a good teacher and it seems like i would enjoy it. the only problem with that has been that i need to take a teaching course, which is really expensive. however, she got me information from her school about a far more affordable course that i can take to get my certification. so, thanks to my boyfriend, i’m all signed up and classes start next week.
i’m looking forward to doing this because i think that it’s something i can see myself doing long-term.

Do the TESL
I’m signed up for a TESL course and have a 4 year degree. I’m stuck for a few years in the U.S. (until my youngest graduates) but think I can do it on a volunteer basis until I can fly the world. I can’t think of a better way to travel and get to know other cultures.

I started tutoring a spanish doctor in English, he deosn’t speak a word of the language, and i’m having a really tough time figuring out ways to teach the most basic parts of our language. Especially because I really don’t know much about english grammar rules, i can just speak it. Honestly, I think it would be easier for me to teach spanish becuase I’ve actually learned that language formally. If anybody knows any good tips for teaching english grammar let me know.

I volunteered to do this at a local non-profit agency. They provided free training plus the books and other resources. Maybe your local city has a place like this too. You don’t have to have a TESL certificate to do this as a volunteer and it really helps people.
