fluency in Spanish is all but necessary today and there are a few others that I would like to learn as well.
Korean because my sister in law, niece and nephew are from South Korea and I think that it is as important for us to learn about their language and culture as it is for them to learn about ours. we are all one family now and to make them a part of my family I need to bring their culture in to, not just expect them to adapt to mine.
German because it is my heritage and it is always important to know where you can from. I’m not concerned about fluency in German, just basics.
and finally, Latin. I think that learning Latin would enrich my life in a multitude of ways even though I’m not sure exactly how. It would help with the botany degree though, I know that.

I really think everyone in America should be required to learn at least one language, starting in 3rd grade. Unfortunately, they aren’t, and now I must catch up with the rest of the world and learn…well..Spanish first, then French then maybe Italian and then Mandarin Chinese. If I get those down, I’ll learn German and Dutch because I love those languages.
