How I did it: I followed the couch to 5k running program. By the end of the 5th week I was able to run for 20 minutes straight - that's roughly 2 miles! Basically it starts you running and walking in intervals. This allows you to quickly go from nothing, up to running for a half hour straight (approximately 5k). Since its a free program, there is no pressure, you can repeat weeks as needed. Plus it comes from cool runnings, so when you're done there ar… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I've honestly never considered myself a runner - so I never thought this was possible. I'm happy to say that not only have I run a mile, but I'm up to almost 3 miles! I am hoping to run my first formal 5k soon... and that gets me to how I did it: Couch to 5K program. Loved it, still haven't even completed it - but it totally got me up and running! How I did it: I took it really slow. This was critical because running even a little bit left me doubled over with side cramps, completely out of breath. This was really about running comfortably rather than running just for the heck of it.I went to the gym about three times a week and made sure to always bring some new, exciting music with me.I started by alternating .1 miles running with .1 miles walking, as a cool down from working out on the ellipt… Read how I did it…
w0ah I'm bored.
How I did it: I had to do it in P.E. in under 12 minutes. I just kept running and running, despite my abundant sweat and beet red face. It may be a good workout, but seriously, It really does suck. I wouldn't want to do it again..ever. O_o Read how I did it…

I’ve never been able to run very far at a time… if I do something like play basketbal.. I can run for a long time… I think it’s a psycological thing, but I hope to simply run a mile without stopping very soon.

First workout: walked brisk uphill on treadmil almost 2 miles
2nd workout: spin class
tomorrow: my test, I will jog on the treadmil and see how close to the mile I get

I’m re-doing all my goals to start smaller.
I want to run but get winded fast – I had a “run 5k” goal but never made it. I’m starting lower with run 1 mile, when I master that I will move on. I have used couch to 5k in the past but didn’t like the music in the podcast.
At a gym (I guess I could do that) or outside (and if so where and how did you determine how long a mile was?) I haven’t been training but I am feeling fit so maybe I could do this soon.
I am in crappy shape, so I would like to get fit enough to run a mile.
I think it would make me feel good.

DeahR is going nuts dealing with the car!
I ran a very small amount, but fast, to catch the bus! I was able to breathe. I was tired while running, but I actually coudl do it. I did not stop breathing like I had in the past. It was awesome to feel a realtively normal pain from running .
DeahR is going nuts dealing with the car!
After about 10 years of smoking about 1 – 1 1/2 packs of cigs a day, I quit smoking. It got to the point in which I was unable to walk a few blocks and not be gasping for air (also just sitting put a great deal of pressure on my heart). However, now that I can breathe will walking I am exicted to try to slowly jog around the block (when illinois weather permits that is)and eventually work up to a full run!
This is so not going well. It’s one of last year’s new-years resolutions and I just can’t seem to get there.
must..
try..
harder.
and every couple of weeks I get this happy bouncy “have you run a mile yet??” emails from myself in care of 43 things. argh.
