Cats&Scales is enjoying a ten-day tour of the amazing country of Israel!
The closest I ever got to running a mile was freshman year of high school, and the time above was my best… I ran very slowly and walked as often as I could. =P I’d probably do even worse now, since I’m not doing ANY regular exercise, and my asthma has always been a problem. I’ve grown out of it some, but any prolonged exercise will make my breathing tighten up a smidge. =(
I should define my terms here: I want to be able to go a mile without walking. Slow jog, fast jog, whatever. Just no walking! Hiking up and down and all around Israel and even in my hometown has showed me how completely out of shape I am! I think that if I can run a full mile, I should be able to hike and walk with more endurance and less distraction from my own body. =P What if I have to run away from bad guys? I would be overtaken and killed in minutes. =P
I know what I have to do to accomplish this goal… the key is mustering up enough self-discipline and willpower to get it done! I have time, I have places to run (although none of it’s flat, which makes it more difficult… Paradise is full of hills), I have all the resources available to me. I can even get my boyfriend to run with me on a fairly regular basis. So now I just have to do it. =P

I am trying to lose 150lbs. When I did run in high school, it was only short sprints. I have never been good at long distance. I know this goal will take a while and I will have to lose a bunch of weight first, but I know I can do it. I have heel problems from a recent injury and knee damage from a bad car wreck(which helped put on 75 of the pounds that I need to lose). I began walking at the track yesterday. I went this morning and jogged not even 1/4 of the track when leaving, but I am slowly working up my endurance. I am so out of shape right now. I am walking again tonight and then tomorrow morning again with my brother, so we will see how it goes from there.

I’ve never been able to run very far at a time… if I do something like play basketbal.. I can run for a long time… I think it’s a psycological thing, but I hope to simply run a mile without stopping very soon.

I’m re-doing all my goals to start smaller.
I want to run but get winded fast – I had a “run 5k” goal but never made it. I’m starting lower with run 1 mile, when I master that I will move on. I have used couch to 5k in the past but didn’t like the music in the podcast.

At a gym (I guess I could do that) or outside (and if so where and how did you determine how long a mile was?) I haven’t been training but I am feeling fit so maybe I could do this soon.

I am in crappy shape, so I would like to get fit enough to run a mile.
I think it would make me feel good.

DeahR is going nuts dealing with the car!
I ran a very small amount, but fast, to catch the bus! I was able to breathe. I was tired while running, but I actually coudl do it. I did not stop breathing like I had in the past. It was awesome to feel a realtively normal pain from running .

DeahR is going nuts dealing with the car!
After about 10 years of smoking about 1 – 1 1/2 packs of cigs a day, I quit smoking. It got to the point in which I was unable to walk a few blocks and not be gasping for air (also just sitting put a great deal of pressure on my heart). However, now that I can breathe will walking I am exicted to try to slowly jog around the block (when illinois weather permits that is)and eventually work up to a full run!
