How I did it: read about peru obsessively for a year.
Found best reviewed, best deal guiding company (you cant do the inka trail without a guide). That travel company was SAS travel. My guides Fredd and Eder were the best people; smart, funny and super-friendly. No one will be lonely with them as your guides.
Saved roughly 2,000. Mostly to spend on flights and for the trek. Hotels/Hostels are very very cheap. 3 soles equals 1 dollar, and hostals can be as cheap as 15 soles a night, or 5 dollars.
Took 8 days off, plus 2 weekends, for a total of 12 days off.

I finally can check this one off my list of life goals. Seeing Machu Picchu and doing the Inca trail were the best things I have ever done in my life! I got to go with people I truly care about and we all came away from the trip a bit wiser. It’s something I hope many people will try, because it expands your view on existence. 3 years ago
I gave up on this goal 2 years ago on 43 things, but in June, i reserved my spot on the Inca trail hike… Oct 1st I head off to Peru! 3 years ago
