| One of the main problems with compost bins, is that they are usually molded from one piece of plastic, and are therefore really large. There are only a few that are flat-pack, and easy to pack up and move house with. Before my last move I gave away my non-flat pack compost bins, but hadn’t found a flat-pack that was good enough quality to last in the Australian sun. I hope that my new Earthmaker compost bin will do the trick! Although it seems to be a relatively new company, the bin had decent reviews on the web from Australian agricultural organisations. | ![]() |

In 2009, I will focus on growing herbs and some food, as well as making (sewing and cooking) things that otherwise I may buy.
Currently, I’m attempting to grow a veggie and herb garden from seed in awful soil (it’s a rental property, so I’m loathe to add too much soil improvers).
Hopefully I will have time to make and sew some more couch cushions and covers, a large bed pillow, and a patchwork quilt to replace some very old and worn doona covers.
Also, instead of buying lots of take-away (especially lunch and breakfast), I’m also focusing on making my own. A yummy concoction of grated apple, oats, yoghurt, toasted nuts and dried fruit tastes even better than the ‘same’ product bought from the supermarkets (and is much cheaper). I plan to make as many bento lunches as I can, from scratch and from left-overs, as an attempt to save money, and help the environment a little.
Finally, I will walk to more places (instead of using the car, now that I have my license), which will also help me get a little fitter.
