Really want to do this but not sure how to go about it? Will have to think what I want to volunteer for and then find out where I can volunteer!!!

How I did it: I'm in the MSU Recycling club, and we are supposed to do trash runs and what not during a festival in April, so I volunteered to do a shift of that. It's on a Saturday morning pretty early... so it is taking some dedication on my part, seeing as how I'll probably have been up drinking all night before. haha. But I'm being constructive! How I did it: I used the Do-It website to find out about volunteering opportunities in my local area. I was looking for things that could double as work experience for medicine. Through them I wrote an application for an MS care home and they sent it to the centre for me, and kept me updated. I also volunteer at a hospital - I did this by getting directly in touch with the voluntary services co-ordinator. Read how I did it…

Kirstie Fitzgerald loves life
I’ve spent most of the last 2 years doing volunteer work for various organisations. Though I had the most fun volunteering for the Starlight Foundation in the Starlight room at PMH and also for Edmund Rice Camps for Kids. Although I ended up doing paid work for both organisations, the volunteering was where I started and I loved it!

I am privelleged and got so much sparetime. I would like to spend some of my time helping less privelleged people.
I wanted to do something for a long time and I finally went surfing for a place to help. I wanted to be able to thank a soldier for fighting for MY FREEDOM. I love America and love my freedoms.
After much investigation and research, I found Soldiers Angels. They really do support the troops with love, comfort from home, encouragement. They provide names and addresses, ideas for cards, letters, care packages, other ways to help, knitting, holding events for Veterans, support for families, soldiers with dogs, etc.
This is the best thing I have ever done. It’s a GREAT thing to do AND it’s really FUN.
So sorry I didn’t start sooner.
Even after the war is over, there will be lots of veterans that need love and encouragment too.

On Friday, I did youth day of caring with my club at school. We pulled weeds and it was so much fun!
I’m about to volunteer for CASA, volunteers serve as investigators, act as advocates, and are the eyes and ears of the court. Just have to finish the application and on to the next step.
After a little shopping around for the “right” kind of volunteer work for me, I’ve signed on to teach reading with the area chapter of Literacy Volunteers. I volunteered for LV back years ago, when I lived in another part of the state. I take my training class next week. Can’t wait to get started.
But I will be helping to save HISTORY. I have signed up to do proofreading for The Project Gutenberg. Helping to take books and manuscripts and turn them into e-books to save them from total destruction. I know this doesnt help my social phobia but it helps my sense of community.
