I got a pretty good deal, too. I got an older model Yamaha digital piano with all the important features that I was looking at in the newer models. And I got it for about half what I would’ve paid for a newer model.
How to buy a digital piano
How I did it: Well, it didn't really take my 12 months to buy the piano, but it did take me so long to have enough money to be able to buy one.
Anyway, I called a friend of mine to use her car to go to a real good shop which address I got from two of my teachers.
In the shop I told the man in the shop what kind of piano I wanted and he showed me some models that might approach my wishes. Than I started playing on them, I brought my own headphone because the loudspeakers don't always give a good sound. The sound depends of the combination of the amplifier and the piano. I played on a couple of piano's, and when there were two left, I played some Mozart, and then i heard that on one of the two piano's left, the reverb wasn't okay. So my choice was made: I brought home the Yamaha CP-33. Slightly above my budget, but hey, it was worth it!
Lessons & tips: Think about what you want to do with your piano, if you might ever use it on stage, go for a stage-piano.
Bring your own headphone or amplifier to be able to hear how the piano will sound at home. Ask the man in the shop if there are inbuilt loudspeakers and try them to. My piano doesn't have those, but I don't mind.
Also, be sure about your budget, and keep in mind, you are going to buy a piano that's above your budget.

The second time in two days that announcing my wish has brought about a positive result: they have magically received two pianos this morning and one of them is reserved for ME!! I am going to try (and hopefully buy!) said piano on SATURDAY!!!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

lack of progress on this goal – the supplier is a bit pants, I think. But it is something I really want and one of the Big Things I’m really looking forward to happening at some point so I think it should come back on the list…
of savings in order to be able to buy it in a few months.
I feel already relieved!
- decide what model I need
- save the money for it
- decide WHERE I will put it
... but first of all I need to know
- that I will really start playing again (I need it! I need music, it’s the only solace that I am ready to do for the wellbeing of my soul, be damned the atheist in me!)
- in which of the towns where I live half week I am more likely to practice (I guess this is the real problem)
