I’d like to do this the summer of 2009.
How to climb Mt. Rainier
How I did it: My team and I trained for over 3 months on Mt.Si and the surrounding hills. During our training we climbed to Camp Muir (the mountain base camp,) twice. There were several people on our climb who didn't emphasize training, and they essentially wasted their time and precious money. I cannot overemphasize the fact that you should be prepared.
Lessons & tips: The worst climbing accident in North American history occured on Mt. Rainier. The climb is treacherous and shouldn't be trivialized by anyone, young or old.
Resources: RMI Guides are your safest best.

I used to live near that mountain. And I’d like to look back at my house from the top of her.
I participated in a guided 4 day climb in June of 07’. We left from White River and traversed accross Ingrahm and Emmons glaciers. Halfway through our summit bid (at this point the other climbers had turned back so it was just myself and one guide)at about 12,200 ft. I hit a rough patch of ice and my right boot popped off my foot and was swalloed up by a crevase about 1000 ft. below us. I wont bore you with the details of how I got out of the mess…but needless to say I did not summit that day and so I am bound and determined to try again.
justjoan917 is enjoying the sunshine and can't wait for the weekend.
I look at this mountain everyday…well, every clear day. I want to complete this goal by September 2010 (when I’ll be 50!).

Even though it was crowded it was still a great experience.
I’m building up my experience before tackling a mountain summit. Growing up as a flatlander and not having any hiking experience I’ve decided to be a bit more prudent with this goal. I’ve joined the Seattle Mountaineers and have completed a map/nav course. Now just need hiking experience that can grow into climbing and mountaineering. Still looking forward to some father/daughter hiking this summer.
I have renewed my interest in developing a plan to climb Rainier. There’s a Father/Daughter pair on 43Things and they have the same goal. I made contact and we’ll see what happens. I have an old friend who is/was the outing club director at Williams College. We always tried to get something started but he never had enough time to devote to the project. He once attempted Rainier and wanted to try again. Scott, if you are out there, let me know and maybe we can get this going again.
Ed Viesters is something of a hero to me. Wouldn’t it be great to climb with him? Maybe he’d like to touch base with a glacial geologist like myself and exchange info. I could certainly benefit from someone who has climbed Rainier as many times as Ed!!!
My Dad lives outside of Chicago and asked if I would climb Mt. Rainier with him. I’ve been wanting to train for something and have been thinking along the lines of running a marathon, but I think mountain climbing sounds way better. We’re beginning to research how to climb a mountain since neither one of us has done this. Any advice on gear, training, or guides would be great.
this is a step towards. Actually did this two weeks ago. I’m going to add it as a completed thing … always wondered if you could subtask any of these.
