I went to the Fresh Market and bought roses, a rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, and cucumber salad. I picked up yeast rolls and two slices of cheesecake in the bakery. Nick and I enjoyed them tonight while watching NCIS.

Then I got to read all the wonderful good wishes from my 43T friends. Nick’s caregiver also gave me a sweet card.

Nick’s weekend caregiver, who is an incredible cook, had promised she’d bring us a soul food dinner in celebration of my birthday. Last Sunday, the three of us ate fried chicken, baked chicken, collard greens, fried corn, cornbread, cucumber-tomato salad, and the best banana pudding in the universe. Talk about stuffed!

Still to come is a joint celebration of A’s birthday, my birthday, and P’s birthday, not this Friday but next, because A&P are in the middle of moving.

Jessy is an amazing woman. Working in EMS, I encounter a lot of families where they have taken on the role of caregiver for another family member. It puts an incredible strain on relationships, and not everyone can handle the pressures and demands. Families can crumble under the strain, yet Jessy’s a shining star who shows that through love anything is possible. She continues to love her husband and care for him, providing him the support and encouragement he needs. She’s not giving up on him, which will help him not give up on himself. I’m honored to know her here. Here are my wishes for her for the coming year:

May you find other ways to occupy your mind every day that distracts you from the easy tempations of food. May she make progress on the list of chores and projects that need done in the long term, marking off one at least every month.
