    Why desert? 9 months ago

I’ve been to different geographical climates and I prefer the desert. One simple fact here: when you are in the desert, you can feel yourself…your being …with all you can’t recall in your mind from the civilized modern life you left out…there is no mind there! There is you breathing, eating,drinking,...and being.
Although these experiences are based on a few times going there with tours. Perhaps moving there is something a little different!?

I moved, but not to the desert. Ok, it’s hot. And it’s dry. But it’s not what I had in mind when I set this goal—it’s not the desert of the American Southwest. It is, in fact, a compromise with the lady of the house.

I’m trying not to be negative, but I hate it here. I hate the weather, I hate the people, I hate the prices, and I miss trees. The desert sucks.

I HATE ARIZONA. I also cannot wait to get back home, to North Texas.

I live in the High Desert, where winters are down below freezing and summers are well into the triple digits. I’ve visited nearly half of the States in the Union, including Alaska, Hawaii and all the “cool” states to live in. I’ve lived The American Dream in Sunny California, been a wanna-be farmer in Rural Georgia, lived in the Dallas-Ft.Worth metroplex – and I can say, one of the best places I’ve been is the desert here in Nevada.
    The Good -
    • Awesome sunsets & sunrises
    • No alergies (although quite a bit of dust and sand)
    • Sunny nearly all year
    • Surprising diversity of wildlife
    • Sand is better than mud when wet
    • Lots of sunny days
      The Bad -
    • Occational scorpion in the house (you learn to respect & live with them outside)
    • Very dry air – need to drink LOTS of water, use lotion everywhere, use lip balm, hair conditioner and sunscreen all year
    • Skin cancer and cateracts are more common in the desert due to all those lovely sunny days
    • Have to irrigate a LOT, and some deserts don’t have reliable aquifers or their aquifers are not being re-charged as people use the water

I’ve lived all over this country… from the East Coast all the way to Alaska… and I’ve never loved a place like I’ve loved Arizona… the desert stole my heart…

    Done it! 3 years ago

I was born in Phoenix and lived there for some years until I moved to northern Arizona. Then I moved back in my high school years, living in Rainbow Valley near Buckeye. I also lived in Phoenix and Glendale as an adult until 6 years or so ago when we moved to the Chicago area. It is great in the desert, but you have to be very careful not to get heatstroke or really overheated. I think most of it is beautiful. One day, I will move back, maybe to Las Vegas for a change.

I’ve been living in Phoenix, Arizona, since July 17, 2005. It was very hot during the summer but I still love it. The desert is such a beautiful, beautiful place. Now that it is cooling off I can enjoy it so much more. I’m spending every available moment outside.

Moving in 4 Days 4 years ago

Four days from now, I’ll get in my car and drive to my new home in the desert. I’m moving to Phoenix, Arizona. Having lived in Dallas, Texas for the past five years, I’m anxious to live somewhere beautiful. In Phoenix there are mountains everywhere. The sunsets are amazing. The air is crisp. The sun always shines. It’s where I am meant to be.

Even though I’m anxious to go, I’m also sad. I’m sad about all that I have to leave in Texas. Living farther from my family will be the heardest thing to adjust to. I don’t like knowing I won’t be able to walk across the house and see my sister. I can’t imagine what it will be like when I can’t drive to my parents’ house in 5 minutes. Being away from them will be lonely. Yet, I know in time I will find friends who will help me make Phoenix home. I know my family will visit. I know I’ll adjust.

Change is good and yet it’s so hard. Only four more days.
