I haven’t had Internet at home (not counting when I lived near the university I had crappy wireless connections to piggyback off of whenever a friend with a laptop visited) in a year and a half, and it’s an inconvenience having to drag my happy butt down to the library (with no car, working over 40 hours a week, and the city bus only running daytime hours Monday-Friday). Plus, one of my stepdaughters prefers to talk to me and her dad over the Internet instead of on the phone or in person (not an ideal situation for any of us, but that’s the way it is, and my husband would rather us all talk over Myspace than not at all). That and I am an information junkie. If I hear something I’ve never heard of, I want to research it online. If I just think of something I want to learn about, I like having Google at my fingertips so I can learn everything I ever wanted to know and more. I’m also hoping to take a couple of online classes while I get my GPA up to go to nursing school. So I NEED the Internet.

They keep advertising those bundle packages on TV, and from my own research the phone company’s DSL is just as good and cheaper than the cable company’s (at least in my area). Thing is, we don’t have cable, Internet, or a house phone right now (just a prepaid Cingular/AT&T phone that won’t even pick up in our trailer because it’s an old trailer, and they’re notorious for crappy reception). I would pay the deposits to get those services ($50 for phone/Internet and $50 for cable), except that due to a better financial situation than we’ve experienced in the past (hubby just got a stable job, I’ve been working for the State for nearly two months and getting better paychecks than I’ve ever seen in my life…we’re still poor, but we’re not dirt poor anymore) we’re moving out of our trailer to a house that is only a little bit more expensive to rent, a lot bigger, and right next door. Those kinds of companies charge fees to transfer services, don’t they? Maybe I’m cheap, but I’d feel kind of stupid getting services only to pay a month or two later to move them literally one house down.

So this will happen soon, but not right now…damn, I miss the Internet!

I was mooching internet off of my neighbor when I first got out here, but they moved away a month or so ago. I’m getting sick of walking to a coffee shop or to school whenever I want to check my e-mail. I’m about to move to a new apartment though and that’s the thing that’s holding me up from getting an internet connection set up. I should be ready to get back online any day now!

why am i dragging my feet over this? 23 months ago

recently moved in with my grandma while I begin my first “grown up” job. It’s been since June and I’m still dragging this ancient laptop to work whenever I want to get online. So I have decided to make it happen this next week. This time I really mean it!

    Phone line 4 years ago

Well I have taken the plunge. i now have a phone line with BT and have signed up with Tiscali to provide broadband – 1MB line, unlimitted download, £14.99 so happy with that.
Just awaiting confirmation that the line is ok and to receive my modem and i will be all systems go.

What annoys me is that I have to pay for the phone line that i am not going to use just so that i can pay more for the Braodband connection. i asked BT if I took it with them was the phone line rantal included like it is with their other packages but no it was extra: another £10.50 a month on top of your broadband rental. :-(

But it will be worth it. Fast access at home, no extra costs.
now just the iPod to go…

Stop spending all my time on the internet at work 4 years ago

Well: I don’t currently have a phone line and the ‘lovely men’ at BT want to charge me £75 to switch on the line for the first time so I didn’t bother to begin with.
However – now I want to get an Ipod and stuff I don’t want to download music through work and I want to be able to use this site at home and look things up when I want not have to wait until I get to work.
It’ll have to be broadband – I can’t cope with slow connections anymore it would drive me mad – plus the music downloading and all.
This sort of links in with the computer issue as well Hmmm… it’ll definately go on the table in the photo though – that I know
