be a big sister

I think I should wait on this one until I’ve finished Grad School. Because the last thing a big sis should do is say anything negative about any educational experience.

This seems to be a time consuming process…I understand the need to be thorough…but I probably won’t live here any more by the time that I get approved. =( Though I have been relatively busy…so…I suppose it is ok.

I have an interview on Thursday. Hopefully it will go well. I think this will be good for me and I think I can do something good for someone else.

Well, apparently the program isn’t offered in my area. Bummer. So, I am volunteering at a school for the same type of program. I’m considering this accomplished :)

I still have not received notice about if I have a little sister or not! I assume they would tell me if something came up, and I understand that now, right before break, is perhaps not the best time to make a new match, but still. Come now, folks. I want to mentor!

they are processing my application. Apparently there’s been an influx of volunteers lately, which is holding it up.

I’m going to do the school-based program, which my interviewer convinced me is so much better for me given the place in my life than the community-based program. And upon thinking about it, even though I like kids, having a comparatively intense relationship with the one child (and the parents) over the next year would be really hard. This, at least, I feel like I can handle.

I go to an elementary school once a week and hang out for an hour. The school I will be assigned to (barring any unexpected, freakish discoveries in my background check), though it has a population of kids that really struggles, very much supports BBBS and provides lots of toys, activities, etc. There’s also quite a bit of institutional support.

but I don’t have the time to fill it out right now. I have to obtain my driving records from the state of Colorado and get people who have seen me interact with children (people who live in Colorado) to fill out an application. This may take a while.

Someone did it for me and it gave me some of my fondest memories, and I wanted someone else to have the same opportunitiy.
