Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

honeyblack#30 Float On by Modest Mouse

When I was working in the wedding industry, I saw this song listed in a sample wedding program as a processional song, and it made me smile to think of someone actually using it. Maybe a part of me secretly wishes I had used it.

Alright already we’ll all float on.
Alright already we’ll all float on.
Alright don’t worry even if things end up a bit too heavy.
We’ll all float on…alright. Already we’ll all float on.
Alright already we’ll all float on, ok.
Don’t worry we’ll all float on.
Even if things get heavy, we’ll all float on. 3 years ago

honeyblack#29 Human by The Killers

The Killers are another group that write the soundtrack for my life. Before my husband and I were married, we took a road trip from Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale for a class he needed to take for work. We were still dating at the time, not yet engaged, and it was an exciting time in our relationship because it was still new and not yet defined. Before he picked me up for the trip, I had picked up a cd from the library that I had put on hold. It was The Killers’ first album, and I’d never heard it before. It never left the car’s cd player for the entire trip.

I have such happy memories tied to their music that I think it’s impossible for me to dislike anything else they’ve put out since then. Human was love at first listen, and it made me want to dance like no one was watching.

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line
Up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind

And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes, clear your heart
Cut the cord

Are we human or are we dancers?
My sign is vital, my hands are cold
And I’m on my knees looking for the answer
Are we human or are we dancers? 3 years ago

honeyblack#28 Let Go by Frou Frou

When I saw Garden State in the theater, I literally left the movie and drove directly to Target to purchase the soundtrack. Seriously, God bless Zach Braff for his musical taste and introducing me to Imogen Heap among others. I love the movie, and this is one of my favorites on a flawless collections of music.

My favorite line is, “are you in, or are you out?” In the game of life, I too often turn down the chance to play. When I hear this song, it encourages me to participate again.

drink up, baby down
mmm, are you in or are you out
leave your things behind
‘cause it’s all going off without you
excuse me, too busy you’re writing your tragedy
these mishaps
you bubble wrap
when you’ve no idea what you’re like

so let go, jump in
oh well, whatcha waiting for
it’s alright
‘cause there’s beauty in the breakdown
so let go, just get in
oh, it’s so amazing here
it’s alright
‘cause there’s beauty in the breakdown

it gains the more it gives
and then it rises with the fall
so hand me that remote
can’t you see that all that stuff’s a sideshow

such boundless pleasure
we’ve no time for later now
you can’t await your own arrival
you’ve 20 seconds to comply

so let go, jump in
oh well, whatcha waiting for
it’s alright
‘cause there’s beauty in the breakdown
so let go, just get in
oh, it’s so amazing here
it’s alright
‘cause there’s beauty in the breakdown 3 years ago

honeyblack#27 Kyrie by Mr. Mister

A friend I waited tables with once asked me for the translation of “Kyrie Eleison” knowing I grew up Catholic. Without a beat, I responded “Lord, have mercy”. Even though I never really gave thought to those words when I heard them in Mass, somehow they stayed with me years after I stopped attending services. The phrase is beautiful to me, and I’m a sucker for 80s cheese, hence the love for this song.

The wind blows hard against this mountain side
Across the sea into my soul
It reaches into where I cannot hide
Setting my feet upon the road

My heart is old it holds my memories
My baby burns agem like flame
Somewhere between the soul and soft machine
Is where I find myself again

CHORUS
Kyrie Eleison
Down the road that I must travel
Kyrie Eleison
Through the darkness of the night
Kyrie Eleison
Where I’m going will you follow
Kyrie Eleison
On a highway in the light 3 years ago

honeyblack#26 Never by Moving Pictures

As if this song wasn’t killer enough the first time it made movie history in a little known film called “Footloose”, it absolutely slayed me in Andy Samburg’s “Hot Rod”. If you haven’t seen these movies, please do yourself a favor and make it a double feature of awesome.

I feel your heart
It’s beating time with mine
But love love love is on the line

He hold you down
But I know you want to run
You’re hot hot loaded like a gun

Oh you feel so trapped and confused
Start with nothing and you’ve got nothing to love

(Chorus)
You can NEVER never never ever hide your heart
Don’t you ever ever ever ever try it
If you don’t give your heart wings you’ll
NEVER never never ever fly

PS Saxophone solos are completely and utterly underrated these days 3 years ago

honeyblack#25 Jump by Madonna

I was pissed when this song was used in “Devil Wears Prada” because it’s kind of a theme song in my imaginary screenplay of my life. It’s just so upbeat I can’t stay mad. As a workout song, few can beat it.

Are you ready to jump
Get ready to jump
Don’t ever look back oh baby
Yes, I’m ready to jump
Just take my hand
get ready to jump

We learned out lesson from the start
My sisters and me
The only thing you can depend on
Is your family
Life’s gonna drop you down like the limbs from a tree
It sways and it swings and it bends until it makes you see

Are you ready?

There’s only so much you can learn in one place
The more that you wait
The more time that you waste

I’ll work and I’ll fight till I find a place of my own 3 years ago

honeyblack#24 Overkill by Men at Work

This song was used in an awesome episode of Scrubs. Colin Hay’s voice + Zach Braff’s dorkiness on the show = killer combo

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Come back another day

I can’t get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications

Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know I’ll be alright
It’s just overkill 3 years ago

honeyblack#23 Brand New Day by Joshua Radin

I found this song while on this website and fell instantly in love. It sounds like a picnic on a beautiful spring day.

It’s a brand new day
The sun is shinning
It’s a brand new day
For the first time
In such a long long time
I know
I’ll be ok

This cycle never ends
You gotta fall in order to mend 3 years ago

honeyblack#22 I Won't Back Down by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

This is a great song to turn up nice and loud and affirm your place in the world. It kind of gets me fired up when I sing along at the top of my lungs, or allows me a healthy outlet when I’m pissed off about some real or perceived injustice.

You feel like a candle in a hurricane
Just like a picture with a broken frame
Alone and helpless
Like you’ve lost your fight
But you’ll be alright, you’ll be alright

[Chorus:]
Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend, till you break
Cause its all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad you get strong
Wipe your hands shake it off
Then you Stand, Then you stand
Life’s like a novel
With the end ripped out
The edge of a canyon
With only one way down
Take what you’re given before its gone
Start holding on, keep holding on

Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend till you break
Cause it’s all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad, you get strong
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand, then you stand

Everytime you get up
And get back in the race
One more small piece of you
Starts to fall into place
Oh

[Repeat Chorus] 4 years ago

honeyblack#21 Stand by Rascall Flatts

I came across this song by accident (divine intervention?) when I was stuck in the black hole that is YouTube. Since I don’t listen to country music very often, I may not have ever heard it otherwise. I fell in love with it instantly. The lyrics are so uplifting and encouraging, I still get teary-eyed when I listen to it. This is an awesome song to listen to when you feel beaten down and want to get back up.

You feel like a candle in a hurricane
Just like a picture with a broken frame
Alone and helpless
Like you’ve lost your fight
But you’ll be alright, you’ll be alright

[Chorus:]
Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend, till you break
Cause its all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad you get strong
Wipe your hands shake it off
Then you Stand, Then you stand
Life’s like a novel
With the end ripped out
The edge of a canyon
With only one way down
Take what you’re given before its gone
Start holding on, keep holding on

Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend till you break
Cause it’s all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad, you get strong
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand, then you stand

Everytime you get up
And get back in the race
One more small piece of you
Starts to fall into place
Oh

honeyblack#20 Lost! by Coldplay

Coldplay is the band I like the most that seems to have the most haters out there. Honestly, there are some friends I don’t even mention them too b/c they for whatever reason will never give them a chance. I came across them when I studied abroad back when “Yellow” hadn’t made it to the US yet, and it was love at first listen with Parachutes. Then when their next album came out I thought, “I could never love you AS MUCH as their first album”. And I was wrong. And I’ve wrongly made that assumption about every album since.

Granted, “Lost!” has such a great beat it could be enough in itself to make me love it, but the lyrics also speak to me. My favorite lyric is “Just because I’m losing/Doesn’t mean I’m lost”, which reminds me of the Tolkein quote I love: “Not all those who wander are lost”. Both are comforting ideas for me, someone who has at many times felt (and still sometimes feel) that I’m losing and/or was lost. 4 years ago

honeyblack#19 Stuck in a Moment by U2

In honor of the 360 tour, I’m going to include another U2 song. I can’t believe I heard this song live, it was amazing. The lyrics are really powerful and meaningful to me. Good advice to live by:

I’m not afraid
Of anything in this world
There’s nothing you can throw at me
That I haven’t already heard
I’m just trying to find
A decent melody
A song that I can sing
In my own company

I never thought you were a fool
But darling, look at you. Ooh.
You gotta stand up straight, carry your own weight
‘Cause tears are going nowhere baby

You’ve got to get yourself together
You’ve got stuck in a moment
And now you can’t get out of it
Don’t say that later will be better
Now you’re stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it

I will not forsake
The colors that you bring
The nights you filled with fireworks
They left you with nothing
I am still enchanted
By the light you brought to me
I listen through your ears
Through your eyes I can see

You are such a fool
To worry like you do.. Oh
I know it’s tough
And you can never get enough
Of what you don’t really need now
My, oh my

You’ve got to get yourself together
You’ve got stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it
Oh love, look at you now
You’ve got yourself stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it
Oh lord look at you now
You’ve got yourself stuck in a moment
And you cant gt out of it

I was unconscious, half asleep
The water is warm ‘til you discover how deep
I wasn’t jumping, for me it was a fall
It’s a long way down to nothing at all

You’ve got to get yourself together
You’ve got stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it
Don’t say that later will be better
Now you’re stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it

And if the night runs over
And if the day won’t last
And if your way should falter
Along this stony pass

It’s just a moment
This time will pass 4 years ago

honeyblack#18 Wonderful by Gary Go

I had the day off and happened to be watching VH1 (did you know they actually play VIDEOS in the morning?!) when this song came on. I’d never heard the song or of this dude before, but I love the message:

The person that you were has died
You’ve lost the sparkle in your eyes
You feel the life – into this traps
Now you wanna bridge the gaps
Now you wanna bridge the gaps
Now you want that person back

And all your ammunition’s gone
Run out of fuel to carry on
You don’t know what you wanna do
You’ve got no pull to pull you through

Say “I am”
Say “I am”
Say “I am wonderful”

Say “I am”
Say “I am”
Say “I am wonderful”

If what you’ve lost cannot be found
And the weight of the world weighs you down
No longer with the will to fly
You stop to let it pass you by
Don’t stop to let it pass you by
You’ve gotta look yourself in the eye

Say “I am”
Say “I am”
Say “I am wonderful”
Oh you are

Say “I am”
Say “I am”
Say “I am wonderful”

Cause we are all miracles
Wrapped up in chemicals
We are incredible
Don’t take it for granted, no
We are all miracles
Oh we are

Say “I am”
Say “I am”
Say “I am wonderful”
Oh you are

Don’t take it for granted, no
We are all miracles
Wrapped up, yeah we’re wrapped up
Oh we are wonderful 4 years ago

honeyblack#17 Everything's Gonna be Alright by Bob Marley

My stress level would be greatly reduced if I could keep this song playing in my head every day. It’s such a simple message yet totally difficult to remember in the day to day crap that gets me down. This should be my work mantra:

“Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin’: “Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right!” 4 years ago

honeyblack#16 Second Wind by Billy Joel

I love me some Billy Joel, man. I had owned his greatest hits cd for awhile and never gave much thought to this song (in fact, I’m pretty sure I would skip over it). Then, one day in college, I’d had a reaaaally bad break-up, and I was listening to this song, and it made me feel happy. As much as I love the idea of never having to make mistake or experience any heartache, it’s just not an option. This song reminds me that I’ll get over it and move on just like I have every other time in the past. Plus, it’s ridiculously chipper beat makes me smile every time.

You’re having a hard time and lately you don’t feel so good
You’re getting a bad reputation in your neighborhood
It’s alright, it’s alright
Sometimes that’s what it takes
You’re only human, you’re allowed to make your share of mistakes
You better believe there will be times in your life
When you’ll be feeling like a stumbling fool
So take it from me you’ll learn more from your accidents
Than anything that you could ever learn at school

Don’t forget your second wind
Sooner of later you’ll get your second wind

It’s not always easy to be living in this world of pain
You’re gonna be crashing into stone walls again and again
It’s alright, it’s alright
Though you feel your heart break
You’re only human, you’re gonna have to deal with heartache

Just like a boxer in a title fight
You got to walk in that ring all alone
You’re not the only one who’s made mistakes
But they’re the only thing that you can truly call your own

Don’t forget your second wind
Wait in that corner until that breeze blows in

You’ve been keeping to yourself these days
Cause you’re thinking everything’s gone wrong
Sometimes you just want to lay down and die
That emotion can be so strong
But hold on
Till that old second wind comes along

You probably don’t want to hear advice from someone else
But I wouldn’t be telling you if I hadn’t been there myself
It’s alright, it’s alright
Sometimes that’s all it takes
We’re only human
We’re supposed to make mistakes
But I survived all those long lonely days
When it seemed I did not have a friend
Cause all I needed was a little faith
So I could catch my 4 years ago

honeyblack#15 Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes by Jimmy Buffett

Say what you will about Jimmy Buffett, but honestly, the man has written some of the most beautiful lyrics I’ve ever seen. I sometimes will forget about Buffett for awhile now that I live in a place that’s basically Margaritaville all year long. Back when I lived up North, me and my friends devoted ourselves to worshipping at the altar of parrotheads and boat drinks. What I like most about Jimmy Buffett is he does NOT take himself too seriously. His lyrics can be very simplistic, but at the same time mean something special to a lot of people. This is probably my all-time favorite Buffett song, and I love the message.

Oh, yesterdays over my shoulder
So I cant look back for too long
Theres just too much to see waiting in front of me
And I know that I just cant go wrong

Chorus:
With these changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes
Nothing remains quite the same
With all of my running and all of my cunning
If I couldnt laugh I just would go insane
If we couldnt laugh we just would go insane
If we werent all crazy we would go insane 4 years ago

honeyblack#14 Don't Tell Me by Madonna

Mostly I love this song because of the video. I imagine myself strolling down a country road in a sexy button down flannel shirt tucked into fashionable low rise jeans and a ridiculously large and shiny belt buckle. But I love the message too. I’d like to think I’m a person who can be stubborn in a good way, and if you tell me I can’t do something, then I’m going to do everything I can to prove you wrong.

Don’t tell me to stop
Tell the rain not to drop
Tell the wind not to blow
‘Cause you said so, mmm

Tell the sun not to shine
Not to get up this time, no, no
Let it fall by the way
But don’t leave me where I lay down

Tell me love isn’t true
It’s just something that we do
Tell me everything I’m not
But please don’t tell me to stop 4 years ago

honeyblack#13 Everybody Hurts by R.E.M.

I don’t care that this is considered to be a cheesy song by many people. I have loved R.E.M.’s music for over half my life, and this song always seems to pop up when I need it most. I once heard it as I was driving in a funeral procession! Last night, it came on the radio while I was driving home from one of my crappiest work days ever, and I immediately burst into tears. But they were good tears, purging tears, and I felt immediately better after I cried. Sometimes you need a good cry, man. I think the lyrics are comforting, and I will love Michael Stipe until I die.

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you’re sure you’ve had enough of this life, well hang on
Don’t let yourself go, ‘cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it’s time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you’ve had too much of this life, well hang on

‘Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don’t throw your hand. Oh, no. Don’t throw your hand
If you feel like you’re alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you’re on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you’ve had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. You are not alone 4 years ago

honeyblack#12 Time to Move On by Tom Petty

Ah, Tom Petty. If I were to create my ultimate road trip playlist, it would be full of Tom Petty songs. Cameron Crowe knew what he was doing when he used 2 of Tom’s songs on the Elizabethtown soundtrack.

This song has always been a favorite of mine. The first verse just makes me feel hopeful, like you can always make a new start:

It’s time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It’s time to move on, it’s time to get going 4 years ago

honeyblack#11 Watching the Wheels by John Lennon

This song was totally my theme song after I graduated from college. It just kind of suited my “quarterlife crisis” mode that I was in at the time. I still love the song and its timeless message about staying true to yourself and not letting other people tell you what is best for you. It’s so easy, especially when you’re starting out in the “real world” to get caught up in the hyper competitive and over-achieving mentality. This song reminds me to take things at my own pace and do what I enjoy regardless of whether it makes me a success in the eyes of “them.”

People say I’m crazy doing what I’m doing
Well they give me all kinds of warnings to save me from ruin
When I say that Im o.k. well they look at me kind of strange
Surely youre not happy now you no longer play the game

People say Im lazy dreaming my life away
Well they give me all kinds of advice designed to enlighten me
When I tell them that Im doing fine watching shadows on the wall
Dont you miss the big time boy youre no longer on the ball

I’m just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go

Ah, people asking questions lost in confusion
Well I tell them theres no problem, only solutions
Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I’ve lost my mind
I tell them theres no hurry
I’m just sitting here doing time

I’m just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go
I just had to let it go
I just had to let it go 4 years ago

honeyblack#10 Walk On by U2

I cannot WAIT to see U2 live in October. I have loved their music for so long, and many of their songs hold a special place in my heart (and I don’t even care if that’s cheesy). When I was going through a rough time in my life, I started listening to All That You Can’t Leave Behind, and in its small way, the album really helped me through. I love this song especially, and I find the lyrics to be very uplifting.

And love is not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring…
And love is not the easy thing…
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can’t leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it’s a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on, walk on
What you got they can’t steal it
No they can’t even feel it
Walk on, walk on…
Stay safe tonight

You’re packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been
A place that has to be believed to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom

Walk on, walk on
What you’ve got they can’t deny it
Can’t sell it, can’t buy it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on

Home… hard to know what it is if you’ve never had one
Home… I can’t say where it is but I know I’m going home
That’s where the hurt is

I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on 4 years ago

honeyblack#9 Silver Lining by David Gray

This whole album is like prozac for me, but the lyrics to this song in particular speak to me and soothe me:

Step into the silence
Take it in your own two hands
And scatter it like diamonds
All across these lands
Blaze it in the morning
Wear it like an iron skin
Only things worth living for
Innocence and magic-amen

We were born with our eyes wide open
So alive with wild hope
Now can you tell me why
Time after time
They drag you down
Down in the darkness deep
Fools in their madness all around
Know that the lights don’t sleep 4 years ago

honeyblack#8 Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head by B.J. Thomas

I’m a big Kevin Smith fan, and I give him MAD props for the scene in Clerks 2 where Dante and Randall are depressed so they go ride go-carts and this song plays in the background. I mean, honestly—what could happen in a day that is sooooo bad, it couldn’t be made better by riding go-carts and listening to this song?!

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin’ seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

So I just did me some talkin’ to the sun
And I said I didn’t like the way he got things done
Sleepin’ on the job
Those raindrops are fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

But there’s one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won’t defeat me
It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Cryin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothin’s worryin’ me

[trumpet]

It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me 4 years ago

honeyblack#7 Time of Your Song by Matisyahu

This one might be pushing it as far as the whole “positive message” goes, but I just get a good feeling when I hear it and I think the following lyric is truly beautiful:
Keep my feet on ground and my head in the clouds.
I’m the arrow, you’re my bow, shoot me forth and I will go 4 years ago

honeyblack#6 Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple

I love me some Fiona Apple, but let’s face it, she’s not necessarily the first person you think of when trying to compose a list of positive upbeat songs. Nonetheless, she composed one of my all-time FAVORITE songs and it has a kick-butt message that I really dig. So much so that other than Eye of the Tiger, if I could have a theme song, I’d choose this.

I notice that my opponent is always on the go
And
Won’t go slow, so’s not to focus, and I notice
He’ll hitch a ride with any guide, as long as
They go fast from whence he came
- But he’s no good at being uncomfortable, so
He can’t stop staying exactly the same

If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can’t help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me, or treat me mean
I’ll make the most of it, I’m an extraordinary machine 4 years ago

honeyblack#5 One Headlight by The Wallflowers

For this song, it’s not as much about the lyrics as it is about a feeling I get when I hear it. It reminds me of a specific time in my life when I was really happy and pretty carefree. It also reminds me of a game I used to play in high school called padiddle wherein if you see a car with only one headlight and yell, “paddidle” everyone else in the car has to give you a kiss. It just makes me smile when I think about it.

Hey, come on try a little
Nothing is forever
There’s got to be something better than
In the middle
But me & Cinderella
We put it all together
We can drive it home
With one headlight 4 years ago

honeyblack#4 Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

I know, I know. Many people out there are just so over this song, but I just can’t help it. I don’t just like this song a little bit, I LOVE it. It never fails to make me feel pumped or lift my spirits and pretty much all around make me feel like I can conquer the world. Maybe less for the lyrics than for the kick butt opening part and awesome association with the ultimate underdog, but it is a positive message nonetheless:

Risin’ up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I’m not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive 4 years ago

honeyblack#3 Break my Stride by Matt Wilder

I love the beat of this song, it makes me smile from the moment it starts, and how’s this for positive?

Ain’t nothin’ gonna to break my stride
Nobody’s gonna slow me down, oh-no
I got to keep on movin’
Ain’t nothin’ gonna break my stride
I’m running and I won’t touch ground
Oh-no, I got to keep on movin’

honeyblack#2 The Middle by Jimmy Eat World

I’m going to just post all the lyrics for this one. This song BEGS to be turned up LOUD—my personal favorite is to pump it up in the car and sing my little heart out (thank goodness no one can hear me!). Guaranteed mood booster every time, I love the positive message:

Hey, don’t write yourself off yet
It’s only in your head you feel left out or
looked down on.
Just try your best, try everything you can.
And don’t you worry what they tell themselves when you’re away.

[Chorus]
It just takes some time, little girl you’re in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).

Hey, you know they’re all the same.
You know you’re doing better on your own, so don’t buy in.
Live right now.
Yeah, just be yourself.
It doesn’t matter if it’s good enough for someone else.

[Chorus x2]
It just takes some time, little girl you’re in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).

Hey, don’t write yourself off yet.
It’s only in your head you feel left out or
looked down on.
Just do your best, do everything you can.
And don’t you worry what the bitter hearts are gonna say.

[Chorus x2]
It just takes some time, little girl you’re in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright). 4 years ago

honeyblack#1 That's Life, by Frank Sinatra

I work in customer service, and whenever I get a particularly rude customer, I play this song and pump up the volume and it makes me feel better.

My 2 favorite lyrics from this song are:

I said that’s life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks,
Stompin’ on a dream
But I don’t let it, let it get me down,
‘Cause this fine ol’ world it keeps spinning around

That’s life
I tell ya, I can’t deny it,
I thought of quitting baby,
But my heart just ain’t gonna buy it. 5 years ago
