I just finished writing the final paper for the course Swedish film and sent it to my teacher. Half of this summer’s required credits acquired now, it feels good. I wrote about the stereotypes and cliches in vampire films, as my group’s film project was about vampire films in general. I’m hoping I’d get a 3 from this course; I dare not quite hope for a 4 and apparently no one got the full 5 from our teacher. A 3 would we very good. I shall remain waiting for the results.
For the rest of the summer I have a couple of tasks left. One of them is to write the 5-page long paper in Swedish for one of our basic courses. (And yes, it’s the one that is now over a year late.) I should finish it before August, as I need the 5 study points for the summer study grant (I have 5/10 credits at the moment) and well, I really do need to get rid of that course finally, it has been left hanging for far too long. It will be quite a project to get it done, but I’ll try my best.
I also need to determine next semester’s schedule, see what courses to take and most importantly, finally decide on a minor.
I already paid next year’s tuition fees, so I’m for sure enrolled for the next semester. Just gotta go fetch a new sticker for my student card sometime in August.
Since I’m now almost done with all of this year’s assignments and courses, I thought a recap of the past year could be in order.
At the moment, I have a total of
99 study points. After I’ve gotten the results from the film course and will have finished that long paper, the count will rise to 109 study points. I will need 180 points for the Bachelor’s degree. So I’m estimating it’ll take me from 1,5 to 2 years to finish my studies, since I will not be continuing with Nordic languages after I’ve gotten the Bachelor’s degree, I think.
Here are all the courses and what grades I got from them this year:
- English: text comprehension (exam) – passed, no grade
- Introduction to translation processes – passed, no grade
- Introduction to literary studies – passed, no grade
- US Presidential Elections – 5
- Basic course in Women’s Studies – 3
- Beginner’s course in Latin – 4
- Societies and cultures of the Nordic countries – passed, no grade
- Swedish literature in historic light – 3
- Translation Finnish-Swedish I – 4
- Basic course in translation science – 4
- Introduction to literary translation – 4
- Phonetics (Swedish) – 3
- Basic course I in Czech – 5
(grades go from 1 to 5, 5 being the best possible grade)
When I add those results to last year’s results, my GPA is 3,57. (Just this year’s GPA would be 3,88.) Hmm. I wouldn’t mind it if it was a bit better than that, but oh well. I’ve still done well.
New courses start in the beginning on September. We’ll see what becomes of my third year at university. I’m hoping I’ll keep doing well – I have a feeling that the new semester will hold a lot of challenges for me.

This was my first week… we’ve been focusing on the usual value studies, which are a lot of fun.

I’ve been making myself a schedule every day to help keep on track. I don’t feel as adrift this time, even though we’re doing things twice as fast during the summer semester.
LOVING the classes. They’re challenging and informative, which I didn’t find at other universities.

I saw my teacher at university today, when Juho and I had lunch there – so he’s obviously not on holiday yet,
so why is he not responding to my email!? :’D
I’m so impatient these days, ehe.
Oh! I got a 4 from the course “Introduction to literary translation”! This is surprising because we weren’t even supposed to get grades from that course! :D I don’t mind, yay!

It’s not even 4pm here yet, but I’ve finished all but one of my remaining assignments! I wrote the two Czech essays and the last movie review and sent them to my teachers. Waiting for replies now.
I also asked my Swedish teacher if it would be possible to finish one course during the summer and get study points for it before August. If he says yes, I’ll apply for the student grant for June and July, even if I’d get a job. I probably won’t be getting the money right away, but it’s still better than nothing.
Still no results from some of the previous courses and I’m about to lose my mind. I want results!!! :’D

Wrote and sent the second movie review in Swedish. One more left. I also had an idea for the project paper this morning, right after waking up.
I hope my teacher doesn’t mind checking them now – the fourth period did end yesterday, after all. Summer vacation’s officially here.

I just had to remind myself that I did get some important things done today, even though I’m feeling like a sloth again.
I went to university in the afternoon, to take care of the last little things and see if I could find some exam results on notice boards somewhere. No such luck though – I did find my phonetics exam in my teacher’s box, it seems like I got a 3, but that’s all I found. I contacted one of the teachers to ask when and how we were getting our results and she replied to me saying that we’d see the results by the end of the month. No idea how I’ll get to know about the third course, I guess I’ll just have to be patient.
I spent quite a bit of time going through information that had to do with the student grants during the summer, counting my points etc. It seems like I could be able to get student grant for two (of three) months this summer, so if I don’t happen to find a job, I should still be ok. If no problems surface, that is.
I can’t wait to be able to see all of this year’s study points and grades in my register. :D I can’t remember when I’ve last been this impatient about getting results, eh.

I finally grabbed the bull by the horns and started writing those movie analyses in Swedish. I sent the first one to my teacher just now, still two more to go. Then I’ll also have to write that personal version of our project work. I’ll try to get these done by Friday.
Then I’ll have two Czech essays left. I’m thinking about doing that long, Swedish paper (that is a year late) during the summer, that way I’ll have more time to concentrate on it. Or we’ll see, I might try to do it fast too. Not sure yet, it depends on a lot of things.
I’ll probably stop by on campus tomorrow or on Thursday, to check out if I could find some exam results there etc. I’m getting really impatient about them, hah.
I just started to consider studying instead of working this summer… But I don’t know, I’d need to find out more about it. And it would be good to get a job, I think, for the money and the experience. We’ll see what happens.

I had my very last lecture yesterday. Two more exams next week and then that’s it. My second year at the university of Tampere will be through. Time has gone by pretty fast, it seems. :)
I still have quite a lot to do, though. I’ve been lazy and unmotivated lately, I admit it, and I’ve fallen behind with my work but it’s nothing that couldn’t be remedied. I’ve gotten some things done today, luckily, and I’ll continue tomorrow.
We’re leaving to Turku and Naantali tomorrow evening, Juho and I. We will be spending vappu there, it’ll be fun and interesting. We’ll be there for the rest of week, I think. So it was important for me to get some things done finally today, as you see. :P The first exam is on Monday.
I’m surprisingly impatient to know what I got from the Swedish phonetics course, heh.
It will be nice to have everything done and have a totally clean table, so to speak.

I completely lost my interest in my lessons and all other happenings about school. I am skipping almost half of my classes and even if I go to any class, I just sit there like a shadow.
I just don’t feel like doing anything, all I wanna do is stay at my little stupid dormitory room and sleep all day and drink at nights.
You know what? I’m mostly sorry because of NOT EVEN being sorry for that.

This morning I had my final phonetics class and I turned in my homework-exam, so there’s another course that I’m completely done with now! :) I had a classmate quickly look at my paper before I gave it to our teacher, to avoid the biggest mistakes and have a chance at passing the course. :’D Phonetics just really isn’t for me, eh.
After some surprising cancellations, it looks like I’ll only have one lecture next week, on Monday. Nothing else for the rest of the week. :D That will be the final lecture of my second year. The following week I’ll have two exams, but then there’s nothing else on campus after that.
I’ll still have to try work hard and get things done, I’m falling a bit behind with some assignments. It’s just really hard to get started, I’ve also been suffering from a slight Swedish crisis, meh.
I’ll tally up this spring’s results later on!
