Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

brightthunderHow to Catch Up?

Anyone have any ideas on how to do a massive catch up job:)
Heavens, I’ve only been gone a few weeks and the site looks different. I was subscribed to 54 people, and now it’s only 52 … how can that happen?
Seems Silvie is in crutches:( Wren has a new dog:) and Coar’s on a luxury vacation:)
So, what else did I miss????
Hungry for news here:) 4 years ago

brightthunderSaying Hi

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi, and thanks to everyone who has been sending me good wishes to recover from the infection.
It’s still pretty bad, and I’m still supposed to be resting, so my 43T time is still very limited. But today is Sept 11th, and seemed a very appropriate time to pop in.
Many thanks for all the good wishes, and though I’‘ve been quiet, please know you are not forgotten:) 4 years ago

brightthunderSigh

I’ve been feeling pretty low these last few days, probably the reason I haven’t posted much.
I know the reason, I just don’t know what to do about it.
I have an online friend who is very dear to me…unfortunately he has been facing some major problems over the last two years. His problems fall within an area which I am qualified to help and have quite a lot of experience in.
I’ve been trying to help him since the outset. And spending hours chatting about his problems, at least four evenings a week. I’ve come up with every possible solution I can think of, and done lots of research to ensure I’m not missing something, or not up to date.
I’ve presented the solutions in a whole variety of ways.
Yet, he has not taken even one tiny step to reslove the problems, and of course, as time passes the problems are growing and becoming more complex.

In many ways I understand his reluctance, for to address these problems he must do several difficult things.
– make some decisions
– make some significant changes to his lifestyle
– commit to putting the necessary time, effort and money into the solution.
All of the above can be hard for people to do.

But, this last week, it’s become obvious he hasn’t done any of these things. Not one step forward:(
And still we circle the problems again and again:(
I feel like a magician…and he’s waiting for me to pull the rabbit out of the hat. I feel he’s waiting for me to come up with an EASY solution. I wish I could, but addressing his problems will be difficult, and I can’t make it otherwise:(

I feel exasperated and deflated. And I’m dreading our next chat. 5 years ago

brightthunderWhat's A Foggell???

Yesterday evening I was looking around Utube, and I found an old playlist I’d named Soothing. So I set it to play all, and sat back.
Remember that sweet old Art Garfuncle song Bright Eyes? It started playing, and I was filled with images of sweet little bunnies. Then he sang that line that has always confused me, and I decided to bite the bullet and finally ask the family…what on earth is a Foggell anyway?
Once the riotous laughter had died down it was explained that there is no such thing as a Foggell [which is a way was a relief:)], but boy did I feel silly when we listened again, and the line actually is….There’s a fog all on the horizon:):):)

All these years, and at last I found out there is no such thing as a mysterious Foggell…LOL

brightthunderKlutz and Klutz Junior:)

Over the weekend the facing was coming off the shelf we have all our glasses on. Mum got a hammer and decided to “fix” it.
So, you can guess what happened…only 2 glaases left intact, and an incredible mess to clean up.
Two glaases for a family who are trying to drink more water, take smoothies and use the juicer, just wasn’t working.
Ebay to the resuce.
So today, a huge heavy cardboard box arrives, filled with all shapes and sizes of glasses. In a moment of pure genius, I suggested we open it upside down, and just slip the outer box off. Seemed like a plan. Of course, unbeknown to us, there was no inner box:(
Yep, I just broke every replacement glass we’d bought:(
Ah well, thank goodness for laughter:)
Must go clean up the mess!!!!! 5 years ago

brightthunderOnly You

Today was supposed to be our weekly Only You day.
A day when my beloved and I spend focused only on each other.
Lock the door, turn off the phones and computers.
24hours of nothing but each other. These are very special days, I’ve come to love them.
The only interupption allowed is his beeper for work. And yes it went off:( He’s been gone for hours:(
I know emergencies happen, but I hate having to be separate on an Only You day. I miss him. 5 years ago

brightthunderThe Perfect Gift

Yesterday I had a challenge. Finding a birthday gift for someone who should have the title Most Difficult Person in the World to Buy for
After years of buying him software [which you don’t really see, and can’t giftwrap], I decided this year I wanted to find something lovely, wrappable and unusal. I think I found it – but will he like it? I love it, so I could always be talked into keeping it myself if he hates it:) Was that smart shopping I wonder? 5 years ago
