Two down, one to go. 1 month ago

Got to the end of The Two Towers last night. Phew.

It’s great, but some of it’s hard work.

Almost there now.

One down, two to go. 2 months ago

I finished The Fellowship of the Ring a few nights ago.

It’s an amazing world, and a wonderful story, but it could really do with a good edit.

How & why. 2 months ago

While I’ve been off work (long story) I’ve been looking for ways to fill the time and relax. The first, cheapest and most obvious way has been rewatching old dvds. So I came about three weeks ago to be watching the Lord of the Rings films and remembering how awesome they were.

On the first watch I wanted to know what had happened to Arwen’s mother. This led me to google and then to The Thain’s Book, which just sucked me into the world of Middle Earth.

I read about two thirds of The Lord of the Rings about seven years ago, and I can’t remember why I gave up when I’d got so far. When the last Harry Potter book came out I was part of a LiveJournal community that reread all the books in the run up, a chapter a day. It was a great way to read such a huge amount, and there’s no way I would have reread them otherwise, so I stole the idea for LotR. Then I dragged my husband into it, cos he wanted to read it too.

And here we are, almost at the end of The Fellowship of the Ring, sharing yet another obsession, reading a chapter every night before bed. We’re due to finish near the end of October. I’ll keep you posted.

sitting on my bookshelf. 3 months ago

so the books arrived and they’re sitting on my bookshelf in their box (which, annoyingly is falling apart even though it hasn’t done anything apart from sit there.)

hopefully i’m going to get around to reading them soon, but i have so many other books to read first. it’s good to have them there, ready to read though. it makes finishing them that bit closer!

getting there. (well they're getting here ..) 4 months ago

today i bought the books from amazon. i was sitting in school on the computers in the library, looking up books on amazon, and i saw that there was a boxset for £13 so i bought it because i thought it was a good bargain! i think i will be more encouraged to read them when they arrive and i actually have them, as opposed to if i had to go to the library and borrow them.

I started reading it six years ago and never managed to finish.

going to try 6 months ago

I’ve been putting this off forever. I got the books, but they’ve been sitting on my shelf unread. I tried about a month ago but stopped but I want to try again soon.

Finished FOTR 10 months ago

I finished Fellowship in exactly 7 days, and I’m now moving on to the Two Towers. I make it a point to read at least 2 chapters or 30-40 pages a day. However, I have typically been reading anywhere from 50-75 pages a day. At this rate, I should finish the trilogy within two weeks. I am debating whether I will read all of the appendices at the end or not, as I have not been referring to them throughout the readings, and my main goal is just to finish the books themselves.
