Doing good until... 6 days ago

I was doing well with this until the organic grocer that was previously located directly on my walk to and from work closed. Rats.

The Way We Eat 22 months ago

The book The Way We Eat is really what changed me as far as organics. I feel really guilty buying conventional foods knowing that I’m committed to helping the Earth and also after hearing (we listened to the book on CD) what mainstream meat producers do to the animals. So I think I’ve done this. I spend a lot more on food, but I’m eating better, too. And more importantly, my actions are in line with my talk.

and bought organic foods. I feel un-guilty when I purchase organic. I tell you, sometimes ignorance is bliss. I need to revisit prior projects of learning to cook more frugally – and cooking in bulk/freezing for lunches and dinners. One of the goals that will support this is to learn how to use dried beans!! They are so hard to figure out but if I just could, I’d save some buck, for sure.

on this goal. I’m kind of finding that when I buy more organic, I waste less and actually am eating less . . . because I don’t just have as much around since it’s more expensive. I just buy the basics, or am trying, and it’s working out just fine.

I am eating way more organic.

But organic yogurt is SO expensive!!!

Have been doing well 2 years ago

on this, overall. But today I went to the big store, not Whole Foods or the co-op, and ended up buying some regular stuff. And the whole time I was doing it, I was aware I was doing it. But I was already there, it was packed, I wanted out, needed food, and was not going to drive out of my way to go to Whole Foods when I was already standing in a grocery store. I bought as much as I could in the organic section and they were out of half the stuff I wanted so bought conventional. Felt worst about the cheese. But at least I’m doing better overall.

not buying but 3 years ago

I’ve started getting most of my eggs from my neighbor who has ducks. Made a very yummy quiche out of them the other day.

Horizon Organic Milk 3 years ago

They actually had Horizon milk at Target. So I grabbed some, it having been recommended by Julia. It’s fat free milk, but seems good so far (cereal and ovaltine).
