I’ve stopped buying things, and started making them. Purchased things just aren’t weird enough to attract any attention. It all looks like clutter. But with my hands in the clay/paint/whatever, I can make any weird thing I want.
This would be so funny to see what your family would say and react. I did something similar once. It was when i was like 13 and I had found this grocery cart from walgreens near the front of the house. I got the idea that it would be funny to put it in are backyard and deny not knowing how it got back there. My moom got home and i kept waiting for her to notice that it was back there and finally i got so impatient that i yelled omg what is that cart doing in are backyard? and she was like omg that is crazy someone was in are back yard and she was freaking out. She said she was going to call my dad so i got worried and just told her that i had done it and she was like how stupid are you to do that. oh ya…by the way i scratched the wooden floor that was in are game room and it took me about a week to get the scratched completly buffed out! pretty bad but funny as hell!
I saw this goal, and it was great! I’ve already started doing this somewhat. I’ve got a naked mannequin top, some large car engine parts, and soon plan to start work on an abstract spiky-looking thing welded together from pieces of small sharp scraps of raw steel.

With my decluttering goal and plans to move this year, the last thing I need is to buy more stuff, even exotic finds. Besides, I’ve had weird things sitting about my house at various times so I may have already acomplished this goal though I will not mark it completed until I can really ‘wow’ someone.
I’ve been wanting to reinstate my Stop Being A Packrat goal this week but my husband already bought a framed Lawson Wood print that we have nowhere to hang in our house right now. He could’nt even make it throught New Years Day without attending an auction and bringing something home.

I am sorry.
The strangest things I’ve managed to have in my living room is an unassembled barbecue that has been sitting in the corner for about four weeks now (takes two sets of hands, and my helpful volunteers seem to back out of the project at the last minute), and an as-of-yet unattached corner bookshelf that the carpenter – a very nice, yet exceedingly busy man who is doing this for me on the cheap as a favor – keeps putting aside in favor of higher paying work. And I haven’t been able to deny knowing how they got there, because I am unfortunately keenly aware of both their origin and their persistent presence.
Somewhere I do have a digital clock in the shape of a large ceramic owl, with the hours displayed in one eye and the minutes in the other eye. A gift from a foreign friend. Must find that…
Moving this over to the “giving up” column. :( Ah, well, it did sound like fun.

my sister was over tonight with the kids… Ruthie (5 yr old) spotted those ugly grapes I bought and asked “why did you put those there” I just said “what, I don’t see anything” my sister thought I was just playing a game with here until she too asked were I got them. I still acted as if I didn’t see anything.finally I said ” oh you mean those ugly grape things, you know I have no idea how those got there. I think they came with the house”
it really was fun :D

This actually will be a hard goal to achieve. Mostly, it is because if someone sees any weird objects in my livingroom, all they’ll do is ask “Did you buy that at auction this week?” People expect to find stranger things in my house ocassionally, so it might be no surprise.
