Mum & I left a couple of pennies on the track by work.
Went to pick her up and found that pennies were falling off the rail.

ive done this before.. ps does anyone know what would hapPen if you put one of those rocks under the track on a rail
Ever since I was a kid I wanted to do this, but
did not get around to actually doing it until a
few years ago.
Having recently taken full time employment, I
find myself driving relatively close to tracks
twice a day. I have since developed what I feel
is a slight obsession with the act, leaving up
to ten minutes early for work just so I can stroll
up and down the tracks to find pennies placed the
afternoon before.
Tips and tricks. Don’t bother with pennies from
1982 to present. While you may find good pennies in
the 82 mix, I just stick with anything 1981 and prior.
Much better quality considering the older pennies are
mostly copper and today’s are mainly zinc.
Or for comparison’s sake, place some of each. After
you find them, drop them from about six to eight inches
onto a kitchen countertop. The cheap junky sounding coins
are current, those which ring and ping when dropped are
the higher copper content.
Have fun. But be safe. Always be safe. Never race a train.

I did this yesterday with my girlfriend, we decided to just go for a walk to the woods and we had to cross the tracks and I realised we had never done that before so we set a couple of pennies on the tracks and waited, you can actually hear when they hit the pennies cos you hear the bang, its a well loud bang it scared us both lol and i was slightly worried either the train would derail or the penny would ping out and hit us, really great fun and its was relaxing jus sittin an chattin while waitin for the train well worth doing
I squished a dollar coin under a train when i was but a little person. I still have it. I have a basket pot thingy where i empty the loose change from my wallet, and it’s in there. It’s sort of a lucky charm. :D
I did this right after high school with a girl friend. I thought that it was really cool, but my girlfriend got po’d because I actually framed in it a picture frame that she gave me. The frame USED to have a picture of us. Oh yeah, great time sitting out by the tracks squishing things—pennies, dimes, rings…
I remember doing this with a boyfriend from LONG long ago—Brad Mason. He’s gone but I still have the pennies!

I did this as a child in the Amish Country portion of Lancaster County Pennsylvania.
One of the attractions of the area is the Strasburg Railroad. The railroad features restored historic steam engines and rail cars. Steam billowing, engines churning, whistles blowing and SQUISH !
I want to do this again !
Absnasm is so freaking happy!
God, we got in so much trouble with my mum. My dad is a strange mixture of caution and recklessness. He strongly advises ultra-tentatism (is that a word?) in simple day-to-day matters – “Careful you don’t drop that plate, Abi! Careful! You might cut yourself!” – and yet is quite happy to risk derailing a train in the name of science/fun.

Fun times. I’ve done this many, many times, even though it’s strongly discouraged and probably borderline dangerous.
