become EMT certified

This goal keeps getting pushed off because of other, more pressing goals… like grad. school and being on time… both of which are a constant struggle. I’ve started volunteering for the Red Cross, though, and so hopefully that will get me closer to my EMT goal.

Okay, so… the class is out for now. I’ve lost at least $90 (non-refundable; more if I can’t get the rest back) on tuition payments, which, I suppose, doesn’t seem like much, but it’s a large chuck of money for me… and won’t be able to attend the class. I missed the first class because of miscommunication and incorrect information on the course/school website and then the second for a personal emergency.

Crap. Crapcrapcrap. Back to the drawing board on this one.

...On a happier note, the boyfriend told me (without realising what he was saying, I don’t think, because I still haven’t told him I was going to take the class in the first place) that he’d be happy if I became an EMT because it would mean that he had inspired me. Never thought about it that way, but I think it’s a much more positive way to think about it than I have been up to now.

W00t; I’m well on my way to completing this goal. I’ve signed up for a class next semester through a local college in Lancaster and have even figured out how to pay for it… sorta… heh heh. Yay for no-interest payment plans! So, after I complete this course (four months long starting in January 2007), I’ll be able to check this goal off my list. Also, lucky for me, the tuition cost covers the class, all textbooks, and all necessary “EMT clothing”

I hope my boyfriend supports me. He’s an EMT, but he’s had trouble in college and I don’t want him to think that I’m usurping his job just because I can. [worries]

My three sources of inspiration for this goal are:

1. My mother, who’s a nurse and who loves helping people.

2. A friend who lived on my hall during my freshman year in college. He became an EMT in high school and was a great help to the rest of us on the hall when people were throwing up drunk.

3. My current boyfriend, who was EMT certified this past summer and who wants to be an ER doctor in the future.
