I ran a website which covered local entertainment and events. I also had a message board. for the two years or so that I ran it, I had a few hundred thousand hits and almost 200 members on my message board. Apparently, some guy wanted my domain name and bought it as soon as it expired, before I could renew. I was busy at the time anyway, so I let it go. Who knows, I may put up another site one day in the future.

Don’y worry too much about not knowing anything. Just sit down and do it. Get a good web editor (frontpage sucks) and start off designing it. Then you can look at the code and slowly you pick it up. That’s what I did and now I build websites for buisnesses and companies. Just keep at it and you’ll get the hang of it!

it’s actually quite satisfying to start your own website and I would encourage others to do the same. Of course, you must be prepared for the other tasks that lies ahead. Creating a website is only half the battle. The other half involves more work with driving traffic and learning how to market your site. Also, there are other expenses: server maintainence, advertising, plus the time and effort you put in to make sure everything goes smoothly.
