ISTPs are action-oriented people. They like to be up and about, doing things. They are not people to sit behind a desk all day and do long-range planning. Adaptable and spontaneous, they respond to what is immediately before them. They usually have strong technical skills, and can be effective technical leaders. They focus on details and practical things. They have an excellent sense of expediency and grasp of the details which enables them to make quick, effective decisions.

of all the descriptions of the different traits, this one is the least like me. I can be very action oriented, but I have become a lot less so in the past few years. Then again, that may not be completely true. I do get so busy with my work and am on the go so much that when I have any down time I don’t feel motivated to do very much. But if I do have long stretches of that down time, I find that I will be calling in for extra work or looking for something to re-arrange around the house. I’m also adaptable and spontaneous. change doesn’t bother me most of the time and I like playing thing by ear rather the having to many thing booked in advance… that way if I feel like a change or going a different direction, it can happen.
I don’t have strong technical skills however, I can understand them when and if I take the time… but they don’t really interest me unless they effect the people that I am working with or helping
I am a people person and I do love to pick apart how they work and how I can help them.
Making quick, effective decisions?? I’m not sure about that either..

I tend to over annualize, I want to see every angle before I make my decision… and even then my decision isn’t always right!

ISTPs like and need to spend time alone, because this is when they can sort things out in their minds most clearly. They absorb large quantities of impersonal facts from the external world, and sort through those facts, making judgments, when they are alone.

This is me! I have to have time alone everyday
I don’t want to work alone, I have to have people around me each day or I go crazy
but I do need my space to “process” each day
I alway thought this was a little on the weird side
I’m glad to find out that this is actually normal for my personality type

ISTPs have an adventuresome spirit. They are attracted to motorcycles, airplanes, sky diving, surfing, etc. They thrive on action, and are usually fearless. ISTPs are fiercely independent, needing to have the space to make their own decisions about their next step. They do not believe in or follow rules and regulations, as this would prohibit their ability to “do their own thing”. Their sense of adventure and desire for constant action makes ISTPs prone to becoming bored rather quickly.

I use to, but I have learned how to jump from task to task and entertain my mind…
simple things, like TV, do get me bored though

ISTPs are loyal to their causes and beliefs, and are firm believers that people should be treated with equity and fairness. Although they do not respect the rules of the “System”, they follow their own rules and guidelines for behavior faithfully. They will not take part in something which violates their personal laws. ISTPs are extremely loyal and faithful to their “brothers”.

I really see this in me. I am always trying to find my way around and out of the “rules” ... looking for loopholes and wanting to know every way I can work the system to my advantage. At the same time I want it to be fair and want to make sure all my friends are taken care of. I know what I believe in and, unless you can prove me wrong with fact, I wont be swayed. I am faithful in my friendship and relationships even when I know I will be hurt…. after all, all relationship will eventually end in hurt and pain, so you might as well deal with it now.

ISTPs have a compelling drive to understand the way things work. They’re good at logical analysis, and like to use it on practical concerns. They typically have strong powers of reasoning, although they’re not interested in theories or concepts unless they can see a practical application. They like to take things apart and see the way they work.

I can see this. There have been time in class and at work when I have drove people crazy because I want to understand “the reason why” and they are just ready to go on and get the class over with.
I think at times I can be a bit of an air head and I may not be as good at the “logical analysis” as other ISTP’s, but then again, that may just be because at that time I don’t see a “practical application”

As an ISTP, your primary mode of living is focused internally, where you deal with things rationally and logically. Your secondary mode is external, where you take things in via your five senses in a literal, concrete fashion

I’m not sure how logical I am all the time, but I do tend to depend more on what I think are the facts rather then what is going on around me. I can easily zone out or close down and not let my senses and feeling get to me. This can be both good and bad. There are times when what I think is logical is really the very opposite of what should be done. I need to make sure that I control… or better yet.. God control’s… this quality, and not let it control me.
