The place I lived in college is having a party for alumni in a few weeks. I’ve got fond memories of the place, and thought it might be a good event to get my friends from college together. So, rustle up all the e-mail addresses, realize I haven’t talked to some of them in years, and send off the e-mail….
only to find that many of the messages came back as “no such addressee.” Unfortunately, they’ve also got unlisted phone numbers, and the numbers I have go to voice mail which don’t tell me if they’re still there. Wish I’d been checking more frequently!

Swept through e-mail, and sent off four notes I’d been meaning to send for a while to old friends, family, and folks I’d intended to respond to. I feel virtuous.
And I deleted a bunch of e-mail.

Ok, maybe e-mail’s too heavyweight. A couple friends are seriously into Facebook. Because I’m starting a new job, I keep finding little oddities surprised about the new company that fit well into the Facebook status / Twitter tweet model. So I’m going to try to post to Facebook for the next couple weeks. So far, it’s led to a couple nice conversations with folks I haven’t otherwise been able to talk with via e-mail.

I’m still not feeling like I’m keeping up enough with friends; even with occasional lunches, I still feel like lots of folks are going dark and not keeping in touch as life intrudes.
Well, someone’s got to start the conversation, and I can’t always assume it’s them. For the next week or two, I’ll try to e-mail friends I’ve been meaning to keep up with but haven’t heard from lately. We’ll see if that keeps me more social.

I love getting e-mails so I should send them out. Glad I finally pushed myself to doing it. :D
