The biggest hurdle anyone faces in becoming a veterinarian is getting into veterinary school. There’s not many of them and they’re highly competitive. In order to get into veterinary school I need to have a good GPA, good scores on the GRE, experience working with animals, 3 letters of recommendation, and something to make me stand out from the sea of applicants.
I have:
1. A good GPA
2. Two people to write me letters of recommendation
3. Animal experience: I had an internship at the Philadelphia Zoo and I have a job as a veterinary technician at a cat hospital
I need:
1. To get a good GRE score
2. To find someone to write me a third letter of recommendation
3. Something to make me really stand out

I’ve wanted to become a vet since I was little. My mother worked in a hospital before she died, so I’ve always wanted to do something in the medical field, but I don’t think I could handle being a human doctor.
Ever since I was 6 years old, I’ve always had a passion for and interest in animals! Thus, even as a young child, I have aspired to become a veterinarian in order to be able to save the lives of animals!
I’m so glad to be finishing high-school this year!
So I’m off to do pre-vet starting at the end of February next year. =)
In New Zealand pre-vet consists of one semester, and then you either get into the vet course (4.5 years) or do something else.
I’ve had enough experience, shelter volunteer, work exp. at zoo, work as an assistant in a vet clinic part time. Unfortunately none of this helps on your resume for vet school whatsoever. it’s all about the grades! SO I am going to become a hermit, flag the parties, study HARD OUT and I hope I get in.
Good luck to everyone else
Ever since i was a littler girl, ha ha, i’d see animals on the street, hungry, in need of love and care. i want to be someone who would change that. i love animals, they’ve made a place in my little heart.

Business no longer excites me as it once did. I am 30 now with an MBA to pay the bills. I’ll be 40 years old regardless, so I should be 40 and fulfilled with my career rather than 40 and unfulfilled.
well i’ve always loved animals. i’ve been rescueing animals of all types since i was 3 years old! my biggest goal in life is to become a veterinarian.
I went to school for pre-vet, all well and good. It was strenuous but worth it, that is until I applied to ACTUAL veterinary school. You must have a 3.92 to even be considered! I had a 3.5 at the time and didn’t make it. My advisor told me quite flat out to give up and find a new major. I was really really mad, but after working with the owners, I’ve decided to go into social work. It might not necessarily lead me to working with animals, but I really love working with people and helping them emotionally. Good luck to ANYONE who decides to try this and I sincerely hope you’re up for the challenge because one slip is all it takes in this field!
