russellviii Getting ready for the summer's last vacation
The fair has come and gone. I was unable to go down to Salt Lake to see it. :-(
My son’s painting is back home and once again on display in our home. The main difference is that now the painting has a 4th Place ribbon hanging on it.

russellviii Getting ready for the summer's last vacation
Just learned last night that the fair ends this weekend. The thing coming up this Tuesday is just a plain old demolition derby. It just happens to be at the Fair Grounds.
I’m tied up with other things all weekend long. I highly doubt that I can get away to go. :-(
I’ll still leave this goal open for a few more days just in case. You never know what could happen between now and then.

Mrs. viii was talking about going again on Tuesday. The bad news is that I’ll miss the rodeo. The good news is that they’re doing demolition derby that night. :-)

Reasons to go
Our state fair begins this week. There are a number of great reasons to attend.
1. Check out the statues carved entirely of butter
2. Buy another set of those knives that never need to be sharpened.
3. Enjoy the aroma in the bunny house.
4. See how few people in this world actually have a full set of teeth.
5. See my son’s painting hanging on the wall in the Fine Arts exhibit.

7. funnel cakes – nothing beats fried dough with sugar
6. the 4H building – never been before, but very cool to see the vast array of project the kids created.
5. the Eco Building – it was packed! this gives me hope. also, it provides lots of great ideas about how to live greener.
4. more crop art by Laura Melnick! I don’t have an image of her newest creation, but it portrays Dick Cheney as a tree. He is the root of all evil. Get it?
3. lots of time spent watching amazingly talented dogs and their dedicated people doing obedience, flyball and agility. awesome.
2. our State Fair attracts every single kind of person who lives in this state. everyone goes. I love that.
1. the opportunity to see this dress and other extraordinary sock monkey creations by Rebecca Yaker
going back tomorrow, but for work. yay!

I’m doing research right now to construct a plan. We’ve never had a plan before, but already I have learned about some new food vendors. For example, a place in the Ag Horticulture building that sells both honey lemonade and honey ice cream. Who knew? I will enjoy my requisite funnel cake, also.
We’ll probably hike up to the pet building to see the dogs. We’ll look at the entries for the various contests (pies, jams, pickles etc., although too bad we don’t get to try them ;)). I love going to see the glorious seed art. One never knows what one will find at the State Fair. Curious George Searches for Weapons of Mass Destruction from a few years ago is the best!

Well i am sure most have never even heard of the Beaumont State Fair – it is much like the Dallas State Fair but I think the food is much better in Beaumont – they have more of a Lousianna cajun feel than simply fried things. I also suspect I enjoy it more because that is where i grew up-and have gone there every year since i was a kid - but i will say – i did try the Dallas State Fair and was excited cuz i always heard how awesome it was -but when i got there i was rather disappointed – - but for a fair it was fun!! I guess i would say any Texas Fair’s are good to go to :D
