So, I’ve been looking for almost an entire year for a Self Defense class that isn’t a Karate class of some sort. I think I might have found one. If I can afford it, I hope I can start soon!

I want to be able to protect those I care about though I hope never to have to use any sort of self defense I do feel it’s something I should learn, and on top of that maybe I can help others protect themselves someday though that’s far from being something I want to do as in teaching others how to protect themselves I also might teach them how to harm those who can’t… it’s risky business teaching people these arts, and so this will be something I think about after I’ve learned it myself

I contemplated changing this goal to “Learn to defend myself.” But I didn’t change it because then I would lose the input of 76 people who want to learn self defense. That being said, I won’t consider this task complete until I am confident that I can stand by my own actions.
Now, I just need to find out what type of Self-Defense is the best for me. Any suggestions?

Learn some type of self defense, like karate or a martial art. Be fierce, be Fleur, be me.

I’ve taken a brief course at my local police academy, but I’m hoping to learn more.

because they offer free classes at my school. Never got around to it, because it’s a full week of evening meeting times, but I am going to make time for it this semester. It’s ridiculous not to.
I don’t just want to learn self-defense, I want to really and truly be able to take care of myself in a tight spot, if absolutely necessary. To be able to keep my cool and formulate quickly the most logical and effective course of action in a split second. That’s totally practical right?
By the by, anybody tried krav maga?

I’m going back to campus, although the more I listen to people the more afraid I am. He has an entire fraternity behind him; in my mind he’s already found my driver’s license on the ground as I’m running away, he already facebooked me, found our friends in common and knows my schedule. My mom has already told me I’m not to talk to anyone, she’s given me cards with my lawyer (who is also my uncle)’s number on them. Everything is unreal. I can’t sleep. The main reason I have done all right this weekend is because I’ve been at home. The first night, I stayed up on the phone with the boy I’m dating and he kept saying over and over again, You’re safe there and nothing bad can happen…
But it isn’t true; bad things happen all the time to good people, to mediocre people. Every noise makes my body tense up. My mom is afraid for me to walk to class alone. I’m about to go take down my facebook. I’ve never felt so scared, and it makes me angry and then I feel silly. Because another part of me knows he has done things like this to other women before. He probably does not feel bad about it, he probably was too busy running the opposite direction to pick up my ID (but then, why wasn’t it there when we went back the next morning?)
A lot of the pamphlets that the people at the crisis center gave me suggest things like buying extra locks and taking a self-defense or rape aggression defense class. So I guess I will look into that, as personal security guards are a little out of my budget at.the.moment.
Just watched a krav maga video lesson.
