Stand up to my Mother

I was reviewing my 43 things today, and I came upon this one. In the past, I would have known and been able to pin point exactly every moment when I would stand up to her, tell her how it is. But this afternoon, I looked and an emotion that I wasn’t expecting ran across my heart. Confusion. Confused because I don’t dwell on those situations anymore. Finally, I have been able to stand up to her, and we are better for it. Today, I am going to mark this goal as accomplished…And it feels really good.

Would do it over and over again. People think because your mom is “your mom” that you have to bite your tongue all the time…I totally disagree…It doesnt give “your mom” the right to disrespect you and degrade you…just cuz she is mom.

I don’t know if the circumstances are the same, but the first time I stood up to my mom was the day I got fed up with getting hit by her. A year later I moved out of the house without so much as a warning. Things have improved by now (that was almost 7 years ago) and although it’s not exactly as I would have liked, I know my mother doesn’t see in me the abusable child anymore.

Only to be attempted once I’m financially ready to move out!
