I’ve now had milk goats for 1 1/2 years. It took me about 2 years to get a milk goat. The milk is wonderful. If you’re buying a doe in milk see if you can test milk her, she’ll accept you easier at home.

I’ve made cheese and yogurt. I want to make cream and butter.

I have milked a goat 5 months ago

I just haven’t done it without spilling all the milk.
So I need to get all the way through without messing up.

Have possibly found goat. What luck!!! Now just have to find out if it’s a boy or a girl goat. Makes a big difference I think!

I remember having milked and animal, but i can’t tell what, when and where, or even if I have dreamed it. So, I want to do it. And remember it. having full experience. Sounds fun.

you know its funny, i grew up in a rural community so something like milking a goat seems very common place to me but when i think about the fact that there are people out there who never have i appreciate the experience that much more… i wish i had milk goats, i’d invite you all to come and milk away!

I spent a week at a goat cheese farm in Eastern Washington for a farm cooking school thing (ie. a vacation).

Well, kind of. Last year I made a new friend. She owmns a ranch and through the course of our friendship we purchased a pair of milk does together. One was freshened when we got her (freshened – this was a new word for me). She didn’t remain that way for long, but I did get to help milk her one day. I actually did squeeze milk from a goat. A very exciting moment. Sorry I didn’t share it sooner.

We put her out to breed in the fall and believe that she is “with kid”. We’ll know for sure in another month or so. We’ll be putting the other one out to breed soon, and hopefully we’ll be back in business with fresh goat’s milk.

I have to say that my only experience with goat’s milk has been from these goats – and if all goats milk is this tasty we should all have one in our back yards. Too bad for me the city ordinances won’t let me keep one here.

For years ... 23 months ago

we lived on a farm with goats. It was my job to twice a day milk the goats, anywhere between 2 and five nannies.

After being scared... 2 years ago

...then trying my damnest to pay attention to the farmer, then working with a little brown Nanny, I wasn’t even alowed to drink the milk I had worked for! I was pretty mad at the time.

Really cooler than one might imagine 2 years ago

My daughter had the opportunity to help some friends with their goats and I got caught up in it. Feeding the babies was so sweet and we milked with a small milking machine and by hand. It got to be a bit much after awhile but it was fun for a new experience.
