Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Layne"Only" Did 60% of this goal

But… it got me off my butt, and I have kept writing music since then. I started taking song writing classes, and am having a blast. 4 years ago

Kim NThe Things I Have Left

Here’s the first song from my NaSoAlMo album. The Things I Have Left

Speaking of things I have left, I only have 1:22 more minutes of music to record. I’m thinking of recording The Who’s “Boris the Spider,” but if a song writes itself over the next few days, I’ll do an original and save Boris for later. 5 years ago

Kim NTwo weekends left, and I'm ahead of the game

I’ve written 7 songs, completely recorded 5, partially recorded 1 and need to fill just a little over 1.5 minutes more. Since I can do one cover, I’m thinking about doing The Who’s “Boris the Spider” so I can play some fun bass.

With two weekends left in the month, I’m feeling pretty good that I’ll have time to finish. I’m concerned about a cough that I’m developing from allergies. If it doesn’t go away, I’ll still finish, but it will sound like a bullfrog sang the songs. 5 years ago

Kim NSeventh Day

After seven days, I have 5 songs written amounting to 20:26 minutes. I’ve recorded one of them. Since I can do a cover song, I estimate that I only have to write a couple more songs over the next couple of weeks. And I have to get them all recorded. This is the first night I’ve felt like I’ll be able to accomplish this challenge again.

As a source of inspiration, I took a couple of trips to my college town of San Marcos, TX this week. It stirred up a lot of weird feelings, but I got a pretty good song out of it.

So far the songs are about:

  • My dad
  • My staycation
  • Love and dreams
  • Love and astronomy
  • People and events surrounding my favorite pizza restaurant, Valentino’s 5 years ago

Kim NFirst Day

Today is the first day of NaSoAlMo 2009. I’ve been goofing around with my electric guitar and effects thing and have come up with some music. I need to add a bridge, I think. I’m not feeling very confident that I’ll finish the challenge this year, but I know I’ll come up with something more than I would have otherwise.

Now I’m going to tinker around with the sound of the guitar on the song I’m writing, and the record some bits. 5 years ago
