Visit a spanish speaking country

The decision to study in Spain for a year changed the course of my life. Since then, I’ve been back to work for two summers and now will be applying to grad school to study Latin American Studies. Don’t just visit a Spanish speaking country – live in one!

Okay, I’ve already visted Mexico, but 4 days in tourist-loaded Cabo San Lucas doesn’t really count.

I want to backpack in Argentina, eat in the homes of people living in a spanish-speaking country, or get a job dishwashing the “american” restaurant of a spanish-speaking country.

I would really like to go to Latin America b/c I’ve never been to any of the other Americas. But actually this goal isn’t very attainable right now b/c I’m a million miles away. I thought that instead I’d listen to Spanish songs and try to learn some Spanish that way. I was listening to an NPR interview with Dan Zanes and he played some music that was really beautiful.
